DB's build

Postby DeadlyBeast on Sat, 28 Jul 2012 7:36 +0000

Decided to keep the car so will start adding the xtras. Starting the slow build a while ago but like others just getting round to posting.

I may post this snorkel install in a different thread or in the tips and tricks section for other DIYers as I couldn't find any detailed snorkel install guides with step by step pictures.

Ultimate Suspension Comfort Ryder 50mm kit

Postby DeadlyBeast on Sat, 25 Aug 2012 4:32 +0000

Ultimate comfort rider 50mm lift kit.
It gave about 80mm lift in the front. Goes to show how much the front standard suspension had sagged.

Not too sure on the plastic chrome centre caps. Might have to get rid of those.

Yeah - the shocks aren't what I envisaged they would be...going off the website pics. I didn't order thru Brendan - I went thru Ultimate's website sales email.

Buds Rear Bar, Sliders & Bash Plates Ordered

Postby DeadlyBeast on Sun, 13 Jan 2013 8:16 +0000

WA Tour Build

Been a while since last update -
Since then have added:
Dual battery
Turbo timer
Long range tank
100L flexi water tank
Transmission cooler
Diesel pre-filter
Roof rack
Roof top tent
Oil catcher
Slotted rotors
A few other minor things

Mounted BCDC unit in front of radiator as 1),I didn't want loads of wires going thru the fire wall into the cabin and the unit is recommended to be no more than 1meter from the starting battery and 2), didnt want the unit mounted in the engine bay as ambient temps over 55C "de-rate output current" according to redarc. We have already had 40C days here in the Kimberley - not looking forward to the wet season build up

Below is the mounting position. It will get direct airflow thru the grille but will be exposed to the elements so I have completely sealed the unit even though I believe the internal circuits are waterproof. If you mount it this way make sure you have room for the bonnet stay to rest in its horizontal position.
Image
Image

There are 3 main wires:
BLACK - Common Ground
RED - Input positive -requires 40 amp fuse
BROWN - Output battery positive (Auxillary) - requires 40 amp fuse
smaller wires:
BLUE - Source select (for solar connect to GROUND or for for simple Aux 12V battery connect to INPUT POSITIVE)
GREEN - Remote indicator (led for cabin)
ORANGE - Battery type*
Below is the unit with mounted brackets + 2 required 40amp fuses for the 2 positive cables.
Image

*The small orange wires needs to be connected to one of three locations depending on battery type:
For Calcium batteries connect to 12V INPUT POSITIVE (I think this is because calcium batts can take a higher voltage)
For standard lead batteries connect to GROUND
For AGM or GEL do not connect

I have a supercharge allrounder MRV70 auxillary battery which is a hybrid lead/calcium battery - both a starting and deep cycle in one.
http://www.supercharge.com.au/product_detail.php?seq=97
http://www.supercharge.com.au/technology.php

Called SUPERCHARGE. They said connect to ground as this battery seem to work best charged like a wet cell.

Looking great DB.
I ended up going for a ctek charger, and I had a double ganged 60 amp circuit breaker on the canopy batt. I purchased it from Jaycar. Poor design or abuse and Ive replaced it twice now the top circuit breaker fails.
Image
In both situations I used the top CB to accept the charge current for the battery and the bottom CB control the power output to the load.
I managed to find a 4 fuse Maxi block from the states that is similar in design to the double CB but uses the Maxi fuses.

That double circuit breaker looks like it would have been perfect - pity its failing mate... Is it tripping or having a total melt down?
The maxi fuse block is exactly what I wanted when installing my dual batt system. I'm gonna have to look into installing one like yours or a baintech block as I have way too many feeds coming off my starter batt.
Cheers
Steve

Yep - sure is. Blanking plates in the wings left un-holed for mounting driving lights

Steve.
I found the distribution and fuse blocks on ebay. It works out to be about $60 including postage from the states.
Cheapest I found was on Amazon. (Ive never dealt with them before but will see how it goes.)

All up with postage about $37.00 AUD.

Gidday mate. The Ultimate comfort rider suspension has been replaced in view of extra weight from Axis bar, winch, dual battery and rock sliders soon expected.
The comfort riders were great - very smooth ride and good off road however with 300kg or so in the back the leafs were near on flat level. There was also an issue with one of the front springs which Ultimate sorted out with replacement struts/springs but thats a different story.
The new Ultimate "Aussie Ryder" suspension are going well so far. Good on and off road but definatley better with some weight in the rear. Only done about 15,000km on them so early days yet.
