Any updates with tray configuration Packs to suit headboard on canopy?

so, I've been looking for trays coz I'm gonna get one of these:

will prob end up buying a new tray as ebay ones usually go for a stupid price or they're to far away

can get a new tray locally for around a grand

as for the tray, it'll be very simple. no sides, no tailgate, maybe no headboard

and in time, I'd like to customise it a little. primarily by trimming it down in size, but also making it look less like a tradie's tray

It sounds good in theory but you might as well go for a non removable canopy as you are locking yourself into a fixed design. Have you got some ideas of internal fitout. Perhaps a sketch? Which side will be your kitchen crown or gutter side?

Have a look in my build mate. Im knocking together a full alloy tray with canopy and dog box might give you some ideas. Im building it myself, if you can, i suggest do the same.

Hey Skog, its a tough call. I usually do a lot of highway miles with dive gear, so losing the tub will be a difficult transition. at this stage, I will prob use an existing poly box to solve that dilemma.

For internal fitout, I'm planning on filling the base with drawers (350mm high). also, a 100mm shelf hanging from the ceiling. Kitchen fridge+table etc is planned for the passenger (gutter) side. something like this pic:

Don't let living in a unit hold you back. I used to live on Jersey Rd Artarmon and ran an engineering business out of there and used to bring work home from RNSH and weld in the underground carpark
Realistically, have you thought about making a light weight frame to sit into your tub to hold your RTT. I can't remember if you have a hardlid or not. I will give you a hand to fab and weld it up.

the rack is great, but access to the tub is poor. the big reason I'm going to a tray and canopy is for side access and better utilisation of space

You won't regret the change. I couldn't wait to get my tub off and haven't looked back since. They are a pain the bum.

I recommend using the clear Oates plastic draws available from Bunnings. They are nice and light, what you might find with the draws is you will loose about 50mm of space underneath as they have to fold a rebate into the bottom of the canopy to house the door. Are you planning to have a quick release system to fasten the canopy to the tray or the old fashioned way of bolts and nuts.?

and yeah, I know about the space loss. I've asked to have the skin on the outside of the floor frame, so that should give me around 100mm gap to play with under the drawers. haven't figure out how I'll use it yet

I recon next time round I'll see if I can get them to move that rebate down to near the bottom so there is only a 10 or 20mm lip. Will complicate it a little bit but shouldn't be too bad.
