Nothing to do with Hiluxes, but I just noticed the drummer in your trip photos. His stance and his hands on the "sticks" look like he does actually play. Am I correct ? (or just thinking too much :D)

cheers mate, he doesn't play, but we reckon he might be ok at it. he does play a Baritone Horn (like a Euphonium). anyway, he seems to have a knack for music, so we're thinking about drum lessons too

Finally got my 80k service the other day, about 1500km too late *SHOCK*

in depressing news, my injectors have started to clatter when cold :(
I'll go and see Baileys Diesel in the next few weeks for a diagnosis.

in awesome news, the day before Newvember, I'm going to drive up to Biloela QLD and see Shane at 1KD Performance for some unnecessary toys

ordered a ricer scoop from Monster Rides. I figured I'd better get a little extra air flow seeing as I'll have a big fat go button in 2 weeks ;)

so I had my 90k service last week and found a few issues.

the worst being a collapsed pinion bearing. so after much running around I'll have a set of 4.1 gears shortly

rears will be installed this week, then I drive to QLD for my go fast module, when I get back the fronts will get done

4.1s - sweet !!

Interested in your thoughts when it's done. I'm guessing a big increase in driveability and much less need to finesse takeoffs.

I'm more concerned about highway revs, but better low range and easier take offs will be nice

so, the 4.1's are nice everywhere but hi speed highway runs. engine starts to roar over 2500rpm :(
iirc it was bang on 2500rpm for 100km/h and nearly 2700 for 110km/h

might have to get onto that 6spd box

so I drove up to Bundaberg for the weekend (what a mission!). the truck performed flawlessly, tho it revs a bit high with the 4.1's.
anyway, got up there Sat evening, and Shane from 1KD Performance went straight to work installing the ECUshop MonsterMax tuning module.

on Sun morning he got to work installing the BRC clutch. by 1pm it was tuning time!! out came the laptop, and despite some IT issues, we got some tunes into the beasty :)

on Sun morning, Shane took the Lux over to get some nice pretty graphs. on the first run, the "max power" tune was running a bit lean and lacking power in the top end, so with some tweaking the second run produced some better figures (see above)

with all work done by midday on the Monday, I began the long road home. fuel use was down by 1L/100 on average, and with more power I didn't have to drop out of 5th on the hills! :D

With all that torque, beware of working fifth gear too hard.

Easy to leave it in fifth 'cos the engine is doing it easy, but the drive line, including that pesky fifth gear is copping more load.

Your lower diffs would be helping take some of the load off, but still worth being aware of.

BTW I like what he has given you between 1600 and 2500. Right where you can use it without revving the ring out of it.

1st gear has been a bit stiff of late. it's been 25k since the last oil change, so I'll change shortly. hopefully doing that will fix it up a bit

gawd, I've spent a fortune in the last 3 months

during my 90k service they found rear pinion had collapsed, so rather than just fix / replace the 3.7's I regeared to 4.1.

after I got back from 1KD Performance, and with all the city driving I've been doing, I decided it was time to upgrade from the Yukon Grizzly to something better suited.
now as I'd had the autolocker in there for a bit, I really didnt want to go back to open diffs. So I settled on the Detroit TruTrac.

I've been very happy with the onroad feel, and impressed with the way it works offroad, but did notice the lack of locked traction offroad. So, I thought I'd add an elocker up front. there was a bit of stuff around with wrong parts being delivered, but mostly sorted now (the shop has been working overtime to sort it!)

And just to finish it all off, I've just ordered a fmic (intercooler) from 1KD

Nice graph there Packa, I'm sure the 4.1's are helping there too. It should pull pretty hard now!
