Re: julz's 06 extra cab, chrome = bad!!! new custom rear bar

Postby 06lux on Fri, 09 Mar 2012 8:57 +0000

so i really do not like chrome at all. looks pretty sh*t. ive started to slowly get rid of all the visible chrome on my lux and replace it with a black item or leave it off all together. my goal is to make it look as stealthy as possible just cause i can.
the first thing ive gotten rid of is the rear bar as it looks absolutely crap and is way to big. i got one of dads boys to make me a small checker plate step with a 25mm flat bar around the edge. looks alot better in my opinion.

Nothing new as of late but I was over this girls place the other day and her dad offered me a set of 5 simex mt tyres with 60% tread left and said he would source a couple of hilux rims for me Aswell. Think I might take them and run them as a set of play tyres.
Saved up a bit of money also so rekon might be coming soon too :D

bit of stuff going on with the ute at the moment which im happy about. dads steel factory is really quiet at the moment which ment i finaly got the chance to start my tray. took me a few hours to take the tub of and clean the chassis up a lil bit, had half a kilo of mud ontop of the fuel tanks :S
spent the whole day finishing of the designs and making up the plans for the tray and by the arvo all the mounts and the main 2 rails where done :D

Image

also not going to buy the simex tyres anymore... mainly because over easter i side swipped a stupid ford that snuck up my blind spot at a set of traffic lights and its going to cost me $900 in repairs ): no damage to luxxy though so all sweet. the guy i hit was like "dont let this ruin your weekend" obviously he wasnt aware we just went to the bottle'o and i had 9 cartons and 6 bottles of grog in the back
Image

hopefully within the next month i order some rekon suspension. been looking at the lux the last few days and can only imagine how tough it would be with some lift under it

bit of an update on the tray, its nearly done. tomorrow it gets the last few things welded onto it and the lights put back on. just in time for straddie this weekend. unfortunately i couldnt get it painted in time so it will just be bare metal for the weekend then get sandblasted and painted next week some time.
ill post pics up tomorrow when its all done.

anyone else heading over to straddie this weekend? ill be on the island till Tuesday if anyones over there and wants to meet up

Re: julz's 06 extra cab Tray is done.. and straddie write up

Postby 06lux on Wed, 09 May 2012 5:45 +0000

just got back from a awesome trip to straddie with a few mates. first time ive taken the ute on sand and i was pretty impressed. by the end of the 5 days i was seeing how far i could get in 2wd. i was surprised. hadnt been to straddie since i was 10, wich was 7 years ago, so i was surprised how much its changed. everything is so much easier to access.
most of our nights were spent sinking beers and listening to the classics around a huge fire thanks to the abundance of hardwood we collected from work, all 100kgs or it  during the day we drove around finding places to fish but with no luck. caught nothing the whole weekend apart from some small dart. we got speaking to some locals and they havnt caught anything decent off the beaches in a while either. not to sure why.
i think my mate wins the award of the weekends biggest idiot. he spent most of the first day trying to figure out the best set up for the toilet. we ended up with this design, situated on top of the sand dunes with a beautiful view of the beach and sky... aswell as all oncoming cars and passer bys.
Image

ok so now the important stuff.
finally my tray is done. apart from it being painted. didnt have time as i needed it for straddie but il get to it in the next week or so. will most likely be a matte black or a semi gloss if matte isnt to durable. im pretty stoked with how it turned out. props definitely has to go to fernando from precision steel fabrications. he put up with me changing my mind a million times and he also made all my other bar work. i will eventually get sides made for it but for now ill just get some brackets welded on for future use.
sides are 70x35x3 RHS the rear plate with the lights is just a flat 3mm plate bent up and lazer cut and the tubing is 70mm. for the runners i used 25x25 SHS and topped it all off with 3mm steel checkerplate flooring that sits flush with the sides.

Re: julz's 06 extra cab new goodies on the way. exhaust help

Postby 06lux on Thu, 24 May 2012 2:42 +0000

still waiting on my packing from down south. shouldnt be too long now im getting pretty excited for when it turns up.

on anouther hand need help on getting and exhaust made up in the future. not alot of guys on here have the v6 engine so im a bit unsure as to what size would be best for the v6. ill most likely get the full system however i want to dump it behind the cab similar to what tod has done.
main reason for the exhaust is i made a steel tray for the ute and didnt think it would be so heavy and my economy and power has disappeared because of the weight. i dont mind if its loud i like to hear my exhaust.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

haha so i got all this gear sent to me today and picked the bash plates up from buds. cheers fellas. went and saw my mechanic this arvo and he was so excited for me hes putting back a customer for "dellays" :D so he can install it for me before the weekeend. cannot wait for it to be done been waiting way to long to sort my suspension out and there's still more to be done to it in the near future. ;)

another thing i need to sort out as i said in the previous post was an exhaust. anyone got any answers as to what size is best for a v6?

the tray is nearly ready for paint. sides are being made up for it tomorrow and brackets welded on when they arrive as well as a few little cosmetic things i want touched up. my goal is to have it completely sand blasted and painted by next Friday hopefully.

pics to come in the next few weeks
