just got back from a awesome trip to straddie with a few mates. first time ive taken the ute on sand and i was pretty impressed. by the end of the 5 days i was seeing how far i could get in 2wd. i was surprised. hadnt been to straddie since i was 10, wich was 7 years ago, so i was surprised how much its changed. everything is so much easier to access.
most of our nights were spent sinking beers and listening to the classics around a huge fire thanks to the abundance of hardwood we collected from work, all 100kgs or it
during the day we drove around finding places to fish but with no luck. caught nothing the whole weekend apart from some small dart. we got speaking to some locals and they havnt caught anything decent off the beaches in a while either. not to sure why.
i think my mate wins the award of the weekends biggest idiot. he spent most of the first day trying to figure out the best set up for the toilet. we ended up with this design, situated on top of the sand dunes with a beautiful view of the beach and sky... aswell as all oncoming cars and passer bys.
ok so now the important stuff.
finally my tray is done. apart from it being painted. didnt have time as i needed it for straddie but il get to it in the next week or so. will most likely be a matte black or a semi gloss if matte isnt to durable. im pretty stoked with how it turned out. props definitely has to go to fernando from precision steel fabrications. he put up with me changing my mind a million times and he also made all my other bar work. i will eventually get sides made for it but for now ill just get some brackets welded on for future use.
sides are 70x35x3 RHS the rear plate with the lights is just a flat 3mm plate bent up and lazer cut and the tubing is 70mm. for the runners i used 25x25 SHS and topped it all off with 3mm steel checkerplate flooring that sits flush with the sides.
