Hi all,

I've been a member for 1 year now and still haven't gotten around to writing up about my build.

I have always been a Toyota guy as I have been brought up in a family that has only ever owned Toyota so I naturally wanted one as well. My first car was a 1993 2.8d hilux which I got when I was 16. It was Red, had a 2 inch body lift, ARB Bullbar and extractor which made it sound amazing. I owned that car for two years and then decided to upgrade to my current Lux.

I bought my new lux from an auction for $21,000 and it was an ex-lease car. A 2006 D4D extra cab with with 170,000kms with the Toyota factory snow plough, snorkle, 120 long range tank, mine spec roll bar on tray with big ass tool boxes. For the price I paid it was a bargin.

The first thing that I did was remove the tray, roll bar, and toolboxes and bought a brand new alloy tray and then started to build my own custom canvas canopy. Took me about 2 weeks in total. I built that frame and got my mum and grandmother to do the stitching. In total it cost me about $900. Then I have been adding slowly to it when my budget allows. From Prado Rims to a new sterio unit an the list of wants continues to grow.

Here is what it has at the moment.

- Custom made canvass Canopy
- Custom made draws inside the canopy
- 12 Volt power inside canopy
- 80 Litre Waeco Fridge
- 120 Litre under tray water tank
- redarc dual battery isolator
- 120 Amp/hour fullriver AMG deep cycle battery
- 120 Litre long range diesel tank
- 4 under tray tool boxes
- Reversing Camera
- LED lights running down side steps
- Safari Snorkel
- Front 3 inch lift with caloffroad coils and bilstein struts
- Rear 2 inch lift with caloffroad bilstein shocks and superior engineering lift blocks
- Onroad, Alloy Prado rims 16x7 (BF Goodrich All Terrain 265/70R16)
- Pioneer Head Unit. IPOD ready, DVD, HD radio, HD Tv, MP3, built-in Satellite, CD, USB port, AUX port
- Pioneer 4000 watt amp
- Pioneer 1200 Watt sub
- Pioneer 200 Watt two way speakers in rear
- Uniden UHF radio
- Cruise Control
- Hella Spot lights
- Musical Air horns under bonnet
- 80 watt solar panel on canopy roof
- hilux and D4D badges on the back of tray
- hilux windscreen sticker
- osram nightbreaker headlight bulbs
- TJM front underbody guard and Trans plate
- TJM flares

Hopefully soon to come:
- 265/75R16 BFG KM2s on Black Sunnyies
- Rock slides
- Different Bullbar
- Winch

A fair way away:
- Lockers
- Exhaust
- Chip
- Spilt Speakers

I am hoping to make this a Grand Australian Tourer and a kick ass 4WD. I'm hoping to meet a lot of you in the next few years and check out your trucks.

But will need to upgrade to a dual cab in 5-10 years as its not a very kid friendly car. But that's ages away.

Check out my shed for all the pics :D

Thanks Dan, I've already got the rims sitting in my shed at home. i am looking into getting the KM2s from the USA as they are on $214 each plus about $350 for postage for all 4 so that come to about $280 AU each and there wont be any delays in getting them so hopefully I can get them before the Levuka camp in the end of August. Good old tax money

I've been tossing that up. I was thinking of going the 255/85R16 (33.3") but the way that I see it is that the bigger the tyres the more attention from the police it will attract so going to a 32 will be big enough for 4wding but small enough for the police not to notice hopefully. I'm still thinking about it. The biggest problem is that my partner is in training to become a police officer :x

Haha shit will hit the fan if she finds out that it is a 3". But good idea keeping her off the site, she would have a field day on here being in training....

The good thing about the 255/85R16's is that although they are a large diameter if you put them on something like my old setup (90 series Prado steelies) or any 16 x 7 +20 offset wheels they will sit inside the gaurds so they won't stand out to much and look aggressive. You already have the flares on so you'll be sweet in that department.

You'll be longing for a chip and zorst though once you stuff up your gearing with larger tyres.......especially with the weight your carrying.

Yeah that was my problem. My sunnyies that I already have are either +20 or +30 in offset so I can't go anything too outrageous otherwise the will start to rub on the inner components. So I can either go the 255/85 or the 265/75 and that way I avoid the rubbing :D

Or my other option is to get a new set of rims. I can sell my old ones (which are in perfect condition) for $250 and I have been checking out the Infinity 15x8 rims with an offset of 0mm which I can get throught monster rides for $82.50 each and putting 33x10.5R15 on them which are only $177 plus postage. All these different choices that can be made

The old wheel and tyres dilemma, still struggling with that currently mate. My 2c would be for the 33/10.5x15 as they work on a P30 SR5 rim with no scrubbing, just need to remove the front mud flap.

Rig is come along nicely.

ahhh but are those 33's to suit 15inch rim load rated to our vehicle spec???

Nope 109 when we are a 110/112, same as if you ran 31/10.5x15.

But neither is a 3' lift or the increase in the diameter of the tyre of 100mm or 4' from 29's to 33's

I think load rating would be the least of your worries

yer i spose aye...but a load rating is there to tell you when damage due to weight will start occuring, if your gonne load up the lux i would pick an appropriate tyre...i dnt thats my thoughts

ben why do you want a 15 inch rim anyways?

Nice write up mate, yeah I love the look of the 255/85r16  but end of the day the decision is yours ;) another option is the 32x11.5r15 slightly bigger dia than a 265/75r16 but you have the girth of a 285

And has the correct load rating for our rigs which is even better :D

i want the 15s as the tyres will bag more when lowered and they look really cool. i've definately decided now. I have just sold my 16x7 rims and will get the infinity 15x8 with a 0 offset and im going to put some km2s 32x11.5R15 on them as they are slightly wider :) the load rating on these tyres are 113 so that is suitable. I also got my tax return back of $2,450 so I am a very happy man.

Mate let me know what the rims cost you. I'm wanting to run the same setup of rims and tyres.
