Don't know to be honest, probably something a bit cheaper but I'm not in a rush to get something at the moment

Ben just parked next to your hilux to at upperCoomera pub.
Seen the new owner shovelling food into his gob.
The truck sits nice and high. :D

Re: Ben's white_hilux (sold) - Just bought a new Ranger

Postby white_hilux on Mon, 27 Apr 2015 6:20 +0000

After a month or so with not having a 4wd and weighing up a lot of different options I decided on the weekend that I was going to buy my first new car. which will be . So we to the dealer on Saturday afternoon and within an hour I had signed the paperwork for a white Ford Ranger dual cab 3.2 manual. I will be picking it up tomorrow with a few factory extras (window tint, electronic rust protection, paint protection and interior protection).

Like my Hilux it will be getting a lot of aftermarket accessories with a year or so. I'm really looking forward to the new project and can't wait to get started. After leaving the dealer I went straight to ARB to place an order for the new style Summit rear bar and sidesteps. Other immediate accessories will be a lift, rims and 33" muddies, suspension lift, snorkel and a raptor style grill.

I have also joined NewRanger.net and there is heaps of information on that site too which I plan on helping on contribute just like I have with this forum

Bold move there Ben! Keen to know what your impressions are on the new rig.
Given your long membership you will probably be forgiven for going with a Ford.
What was your top 3 reasons for going with the ranger? Anything you miss about the Hilux?

Hi DeadlyBeast,

There were a few reason that I decided to go for the Ranger.
1. Bigger towing rate/payload
2. A lot more kw/nm than the hilux (hilux was 126kw and 343nm where ranger is 147kw and 470nm)
3. Can fit 33" tyres without a lift
4. Lot of aftermarket accessories
5. Something different

I only picked it up yesterday and I have already ordered about $6000 worth of stuff :D The new ARB summit rear bar, CSA raptor 16x8 alloys and BFG KM2 285/75r16 tyres and a 2" suspension lift. Need to wait 4-6 weeks for the rear bar, 2 weeks for the suspension and I'm doing the rims and tyres this Saturday.

Let the spending begin

Fair 'nuff.
Would be nice not to have to nip, tuck, hammer and cut bits to make 33's fit on the lux.
A good bit of kit to start things off - Fun times ahead!

I like the new Rangers, the new project starts again! Can't wait to see the progression of this.

I've been thinking long and hard about parting ways with my ute, but I will end up ruining a new car as I'm a bit rough on the gear. This be towing your camper trailer? What's the future mod list?

Yeah towing the trailer on camping trips, a bit of medium 4wding at Glass House Mountains and Landcruiser Park etc and hopefully setting it up for a few long range trips without the trailer.

Initial plans are:
- ARB or TJM deluxe bullbar
- 2" suspension lift
- 16x8 CSA raptor alloy rims with 285/75r16 BFG KM2s
- ARB summit rear bar
- snorkel
- Trailer brakes
- diff breathers

Future plans:
- winch
- side steps
- exhaust
- lockers
- canopy
- underbody guards
- long range tank just to name a few extras

Build update, got my new wheels and tyres yesterday afternoon. I love them :D and being a 33" tyre fill the guards nicely even without a lift

Some more updates from my ranger build. ARB was pi$$ing me off with their constant delays on the new summit rear bar so I cancelled it. Another contributing factor was the TJM were having their EOFY sale. $150 off the rear bar and I thought that while I was at it I might as well get a TJM T13 bullbar that was $350 off. SO a total saving of $500, not bad at all.

Looking very nice mate.

Just needs the side steps/sliders to join the bullbar and RSTB...

Congrats on your purchase, keen also to hear how the ranger goes. I was either ranger or hilux on my last purchase, went the Hilux. The gearbox I turned me off big time, is yours manual or auto?
Well, I've got to get back to work. When I stop rowing, the slave ship just goes in circles.

Gearbox was what turned me away from it aswell after I first drove one, very short gears for what feels like a good powerfull motor. Felt like I was constantly changing gears and wasn't smooth to drive. I have driven them since then though and it just worked for me, loved the extra power over the lux and the gears felt good, still short but smoother, kinda made me think twice about the lux...they do seem to wear quicker though, stuff like the painted interior parts on the steering wheel rub off in no time, chrome internal door handles peel off and slice you, seat material wears through... Minor things though really. The ranger looks so damn good aswell
