Dave - The bloke is a chick. She's not, but Brad (be80lux) is on here and along with myself are in her ear about what she should do to it. Its only the 2wd, but she wants to jack it up, add a tonneau and nudge bar.

Mick - I am in my own talk s#!t thread, aren't I? I'm 'building up' my post count.

Re: The Luxative - '05 SR Dual Cab 4x4 - Alphaline Tonneau

Postby OFFTRAK on Sat, 05 Feb 2011 6:27 +0000

After seeing Shanno's Alphaline Auto Snap On Tonneau Cover, I made enquiries with them to see if the SR5 version would fit my SR (with the Roll Bar). The answer came back as a 'yes, but it needs staples for the supplied brackets to hook into'. So, I ordered it with the staples to be supplied... In the mean time, the Tonneau Expert there who said it just needed staples (whatever they are) left Alphaline, so I was in a tight spot, as it was then up to me to work out what I needed. Don't get me wrong, the service from Alphaline has been first class (thanks Alice) and they offered to send me out the brackets I required Free of Charge as soon as I worked out what it was. I ended up just making something that seems to have worked.

Edit (25/2/11) - In the second picture you will notice that the rear cross bar that the tonneau snaps to has a gap. I asked Alphaline Auto about supplying a longer bar for here. Simon and Alice were awesome and sent out a side piece that is a few cm longer at no cost to me. Fantastic Customer Service!

My roll bar may be sitting further forward than an SR5, as the tonneau sits a long way forward to be smooth.

I didn't want to damage/modify the supplied bracket halves that came with the tonneau, as who knows, maybe I'll have an SR5 one day. :) Therefore, I made up the below brackets out of some square, metal tube I had lying around.
Image

Don't ask for any close ups, as I'm not happy with the finish. One day I'll finish them better.

Cheers, guys. :)

Yeah, the SR doesn't have the channel/lip that runs the length of the tray. No external hooks on the SR5 taking up all the space.

Went out for a play today and wouldn't you know it, found some mud!

Then we came across these young blokes with a $50 basher. They asked to borrow my snatch strap to tow it out of the sand. Had to tell them to stand back while they snatched... A bit silly. Image

They got it out without issue and promptly did this...

Today I had a go at cleaning my intake by following SteveB's great instructions.
I don't have the kahonies to start taking off injector pipes, so I just removed the EGR Valve. Considering the km's my ute has done (156kkm), I expected it to be at least as gunked up as SteveB's, but it didn't seem to be. Perhaps its been done before.

The intake manifold should be taken off and cleaned, but I scooped out what I could. The concerning part for me is how oily wet the sludge was. My turbo seems to boost/pull okay, but I am wondering if it is leaking excessive amounts of oil, or worse. What do you guys think?

My assistant... Mr Bigglesworth. I am now in the dog house because I let him get oil on his feet. :-)
Image

Elbow... Hardly anything on it.
Image

EGR Valve... My finger print on the top. See how wet it is?

Intake Manifold...

I took the side steps off while I was at it, as I have plans to put on sliders.

Might be the oil seal in the turbo, be i'm no expert Randal. I'm sure others will have a better idea ;)

Thanks, Mick. :)
I had the oil seal go in my Silvia, which proceeded to send oil through the intercooler. There was oil on the turbo end of the Lux's intercooler piping, but none ran out while I had it sitting.

Re: The Luxative - '05 SR Dual Cab 4x4 - ARB Bull Bar

Postby OFFTRAK on Sun, 20 Feb 2011 7:52 +0000

My Wife doesn't see any difference, but I now have an ARB Bull Bar instead of the Toyota Breaker (Winch) Bar. I think the Toyota bar is a bit lighter. I justify it with better approach angle, looks better and has fog lights. :)

You definitely notice the height difference between the two bars. Its great.

Just noticed that you can see the nice bush pin striping down the side of my ute from yesterday (white mark in the centre of the doors). Luckily most of it will polish off. I was going to get the left side painted (front doesn't match the back), but maybe I won't bother, considering how I treat it.

I've got a breaker bar as well. One of my big to do items is to get rid of it in favour of a ARB/TJM bar.

Looks good mate, very nice improvement 8-)

Thanks, Al. :)
The only real negative is that I don't have the option for a winch with this particular bar, but I don't usually get into predicaments that would require it.

The bloke I stole my ARB Bar from now has an XROX Bar. Still not my cup of tea, but the approach angle is definitely awesome. However, the ARB has been brilliant over the Toyota Bar that hit on everything.
