Little update.. Am scrapping the modified tub and towbar idea and gettin a steel tray built. Gonna be far better for work (chippie) and way better departure angle off road.

I Put in Buds engine guard
winch is stuffed i will pull it apart for the 3rd time this year
Got a new dent in drivers door and scraped the shit out of side step.
Gullwing toolbox, black tub and ARB rear bar will be coming off in the following weeks and will be up for sale

32's? And any issues with the rim offset?

No rubbing with the 32's at all but I'm running a 15x7 rim p10 offset

After tossing up the idea for about a year and then an anxious month to get it built i finally have my Steel tray.
All steel with checkerplate floor, 65mm tube board and 50mm mesh, tie down rails, removable drop sides with cam lock latches, LED tail lights and number plate lights, Checker plate capping along top edge of the drop sides.

Very happy with my builder, very strong and great welds that are all exposed.. there is no need to grind them back when thay are that neat.
Couple of little things i will do to get it perfect sits a tad low so i will chock it up with some 50mm box at the mounts. Also will get custom made under tray boxes for both sides that tapper up to the back. These will act as the rear mudguard and will rivet on a rubber flap.



The rear LH here is about 10mm off the bump stop and the tyre is nearly touching the mudguards and tie down rail.. will see how it goes offroad but when i go up to 33's at the end of the year i may have to do a bit of modding here... Cut the tie down section out and move the mudguards further away, the 50mm body mount lift will help with this also

It was a bone jarring drive with no weight in the back the 250 Klm's to my tray builders

It Never ends! No matter what I do to mine I always think of a better way or something more I'd like to add mines going through more changes at the moment!

Looks good Jake. Are you still happy that you got trayco to build your tray? I haven't got around to putting the aluminium capping on my sides yet.

Yea Dunc, real happy with them... You can tell those guys have built a few trays in there time. There is no one decent makin trays down south so was well worth the trip up.
Only thing is i thought he would of stopped the tie-down rails at the rear wheel/mudguards like he did on yours.. But it won't be hard to cut that bit off and re-weld if it gets in the way of the tyres.
Put 1 inch packers under it today and it sits now where it should. Got a few other little things to do to it to make it 'mine'

Yeah I had to ask them to leave the tie down rail short. As they were building mine i kept stopping in and checking progress and that was one thing i got them to change. One of my mates had a flat tray once an we were loaded up with camping gear and bikes, We had a blow out and ended up having to unload the ute on the side of the road to get the wheel off. At least with the paint you have you can change things and then fix the paint up - I can't do that with the powder coat. Any way looks good - bit more practical than the Tub.

tray looks great, saw you the other day out moonah way. where about did you get it done? i have been looking at getting a custom tray made for mine but more of just a semi comp tray.

Did you see me out the front of the Hutchinson site in Moonah?? Lux has been parked there for a couple of weeks... You might be the white single cab i have been getting slight glimpses of for the last few months.. big tyres and spotties on the roof?? There not to many jacked up Newhilux's in Tas so when i see one i really notice it!!
Got the tray done at Trayco in Launy. There is always Kings in Moonah but i doubt they'd know how to build a comp tray and you'd pay threw the roof...

Been a ship load of snow around TAS the last few days... down to about 300 Meters around Hobart..



Got a couple of undertray boxes custom made from 2mm sheet, gave 'em a lick of paint and mounted them up. Cut my mudguards off and mounted them 50mm back and pop riveted onto the boxes .


Slipped into a ditch and thought it a good oppurtunity to take a pic of my undertray boxes

Boxes look good man been thinking about getting some under mine! Big ups for the steel trays!

nice tool boxes, im looking to do almost exactly the same!

Badly want to go see some snow for myself aswell, cant beleive its as low as 300m there
