Really happy with the suspension even tho I haven't been offload, just round town and at work.
Comfortable and not to stiff even with constant 400kg rears.
Rea paperwork and arb lst they used 2884 prado springs?!
Overall I'm happy and will be keen to test out once back from o/s in 2 weeks

Looking good mate. The 884's are a stronger spring for bull bars etc up front. Perfect setup for ya.

Re: MAD's 2012 SR Xtra Lux. New pics last post pg 2.

Postby mad_industries on Sat, 18 Jan 2014 1:55 +0000

Went on a 2 night trip into the high country just after New Years.
Started at Licola, to butcher country. Caledonia river for night 1, straight up dingo hill track next morning, down Zeka for lunch, Wonangatta valley, up tea tree spur to collingwood spur into dargo. Quick restock if beer, then into eaglevale for night 2, next morning straight up to billy goat bluff track. And wow!
The lux handled it really well. One restart on one part of the track but ws it rough.
Worst i and the old man have ever seen it in 20+ years!
Then back to Licola. A fair trip for 3 days.

Billy goat bluff to. (Pics don't show up steep!)

Also installed a K&N filter yesterday. Can really hear the snorkel gulp the air in.
Had to pull over to check I had the air box sealed up it was the loud at one stage, seems to have a bit more pick up but also continue climbing over 2500-3000rpm
Has anyone else found this too?

Great track. Saw a bloke coming back down after smashing his diff.
And also spotting several diff breakage spots on the way up with the oul spillages!
It has definitly gotten worse since i rode up it 3-4 yrs ago

I'll never use a k&n again after it dusted my engine more than once.

Iv heard different opinions. If its kept clean and oiled correctly you shouldnt have a problem
My paper one was so full of dust it was rediculous.

Oiled filters iv never had a problem with on any of my ktms
Just a matter of a light oil not a soaking and youll be fine

Plus i love yhe induction sound :)

Foam filters are excellent for dust filtering like you say, but are different from cotton gauze like the k&n. I'm particular by nature and IMO the k&n oil is too thin and the filter medium holds too little oil. The oil does all the dust collecting, so of it runs slightly dry it will let dust through.

I wanted to keep having faith in my k&n, and I used both the filter seal grease along with the filter wrap but it still failed. Went back to paper since the finer filter didn't fit the air box correctly and have never had dust in the intake again.

Just saying to be aware and check the ducting post filter with a flashlight each service with a clean finger swipe.

Yeah I'll be extra careful and checking with a fine tooth comb.

I'm also looking at when heading bush, may use a snorkel pre filter also.
Just for extra security

do a little experiment with the k&n filter if u can aswell.
i always ran one on my lux and loved the new sucking/spooling down noise it gives, never really noticed any improvement tho?
anyway i recommended to my brother to put one on his newly purchased lux (09 SR5) 6 months ago.
doing as told he purchased and fitted one.
now done the same trip out hunting 650 odd kms away a fair few times now in his lux, same load and have found better fuel economy with the genuine filter? up to 50-60kms a tank!
interesting i thought, they spruik better fuel economy but it didnt gel with his lux anyway, maybe each lux behaves differently?
cheers brae.

New aluminium canopy.
This is the second one they made as the first was stuffed up.
Looks pretty good. Grey is in between the hilux and cruiser grey but its pretty close.
Only disappointment is the visible weld marks on the outside but I'll get over it.
Soon after outback Queensland next week, I'll look at doing a better fit out than the temp one ATM, with some power for fridge, led lighting etc.

A couple minor updates to the truck lately.
Being winter and high country closed hasn't helped camping of late.
But in the down time have installed monster ride sliding sway bar links. Work a treat!
And also have installed a solar system with redarc regulator and control panel.
This will help keep the 2nd battery topped up as have already had to replace my optima d34

A couple pics from the past month or so up the high country and Murray;
