Sounds good - lots of good kit.
How much were you thinking of posting it up for?
Its been said before that "its worth as much someone is willing to pay for it" so it's reliant on presentation and marketing. People will look at the odometer and age for sure but if it looks nice and shiny that doesn't count for much. If they can see its been well maintained they will part with much more money than they otherwise would.
Well worth giving it a full clean and detail - engine bay included. I used to work in a car detailing shop with the main customers being car sales yards so picked up a few tricks to enhance vehicle appeal.
(You may not be able to polish a turd but you sure can paint it gold and spray it with air-freshener ;) )

One trick is to buy a can of satin black paint and re-coat all the wheel arches and chassis rail you can see.
Another tip - always remove your personal junk from the car when someone is inspecting it - they want a clean slate so they can envisage how they will use it themselves... talk about what how they want to use it, where they will go etc.
If you cant be bothered doing a full detail (should take one person a full day inside and out) take it to auto-detailer. It may cost over $500 but can bring in an extra 2-3K when sold.

Hi guys. Im in the process of selling my hilux but having some trouble. Its been on the market for about a month and I have had no interest at all. Would you guys be able to read through the ad below and give me an idea of what you would pay for it. There are plenty of pics in my shed if that helps as well. Your help will be much appriciated.

Image

2006 Toyota Hilux Turbo Diesel extra cab with 242,000kms. It gets 10L/100kms driving around town and drives very nice for a 4wd. Had this car for 4.5 years in which time I have added almost all of the accessories. Full log book servicing up to 200,000kms and then serviced every 5,000-7,500kms with Toyota Products. This SR Hilux has the option pack on it with carpet floors and ABS. Used mainly as a 4wd tourer. Interior is in good condition with Toyota rubber floor mats and sheep skin seat covers in the front. This car has about $17,000 worth of accessories installed all less than 3 years ago. Number plates don’t come with the car and will arrange full roadworthy once deposit is taken.

Exterior:
- TJM Outback T13 Winch Bullbar with fog lights
- TJM Ox winch 9500 with Synthetic rope and controller
- Buds Customs Rock Slides mounted to chassis rails
- TJM flares on front
- ARB high flow air compressor mounted under the bonnet with tyre inflation kit
- Hella 4000 Spot lights with HID Conversion Kit (one spread, one spot)
- Safari Snorkel
- 5 Black Infinity Rims 15x8 with Maxxis Bighorn tyres 32x11.5R15 about 70-80% remaining
- Stainless steel tool box mounted under the tray
- 30L Stainless steel water tank mounted under the tray
- 80L poly water tank under tray
- Stone deflector on bonnet
- LED tail lights

Underneath:
- ARB Front & Rear air lockers
- Front 2 inch lift with HD EFS coils and Bilstein struts
- Rear 2 inch lift with Bilstein shocks
- 2 inch tray lift
- TJM front under body guard and Trans plate
- Rear Diff Breather
- 120L long range diesel tank

Interior:
- Pioneer Double DIN touch screen head unit, IPOD ready, DVD, CD, USB port, AUX port
- Reversing Camera connected to head unit
- Uniden UHF radio
- Cruise Control
- Toyota Rubber mats, Dash mat and sheep skin seat covers

Extras:
- Spare CV Joint
- Front coilover strut assembly

Mechanical work done recently include Front right wheel bearing, Rear left wheel bearing, New front and rear brake pads (January 2014), New water pump and alternator in (Aug 2012).

I don't want to be rude or insulting but if it was mine and I wanted it gone I wouldn't be looking to get much more then 22k. Regardless of extras it's still 8 yrs old and 242,000kms. If your up for the work you could always pull a lot of stuff off and sell it and probably still get similar money.

Is their value in selling and buying another 4x4?

he's got it online for 30k..

I dont like your chances.. esp with > 240k & being an SR..

to give you an idea. a 2006 Sr5 dual cab STOCK with 150k market value is $27.5k

accessories are worth bugger all really second hand, you'll never re-coup their costs.

extra cab, >240k, SR, maybe 20k-25k ? just my thoughts.

thanks for the feedback guys. It is very helpful. I understand what you are saying but I was being hopeful of what I could get. If I could only get less that 25K I'm not sure that there is much point selling it and starting again with another 4wd

I'm in the same boat Ben. Mine has been on the market for about 4 months now and only one person (a forum member) has called and looked at it. Not one other caller apart from the local car wholesalers wanting to auction it for me.

I asked the opinion of the forum what I could expect to get for my car and as much as I don't want to listen it's only worth what all the other stock standard hilux's are with similar KM, maybe a few grand more. I find it hard to justify to myself that 16k worth of extra's is worth nothing but that's the only reason I can see for the lack of inquiries on my car.

Good luck with your sale, the low (zero) price placed on accessories has me currently rethinking selling.

I agree with Mitch, you'll prob be better off getting the car back to stock. If you were going to upgrade to another 4x4, couldn't you re-use some of your extras? Spotties, winch, compressor, sliders are all things you could easily remove and in some cases (like the sliders), replace with stock items. Would save you a little doing up the next car.

A lot will also be going through just the listing results, will see an 06 SR with 240k for $30k and scroll straight past it without thinking twice about looking why it's listed more or what extras it has.

Really comes down to being an expensive hobby.
Cheers,
Jay
