Duglux wrote:Hey mate just read your whole build up, it's awesome :) can't wait to spend some coin on mine. Quick question, why did you go thr tjm bar over say thr arb bar? I think I'm starting th like thr look of thr tjm better, I have heard arb bars are really heavy? Does either provide better approach angle?

I went with the tjm bar as it was best all round in the 4wd action review a few years ago. Also the tjm one has built in recovery points and strong jacking points. Also the approach angle of the tjm one is better than arb. Another factor was the price. got quoted $2200 fitted for the arb one and $1500 fitted for the tjm. I also got the tjm winch put in at the same time and tjm didnt charge me anything for the install as it was mainly covered by the install cost of the bar.

Damn it ben should have told me you were heading up there, i would have come along. Looks wet as. In that 3rd last pic lifting rear wheel did u get through that section ahead or have to turn back? Last time i was up there it was nearly impassable. Would have been a mission for a comp truck on 37s, and no trees to winch off.

I was out there with a mate with a very stock hilux and didn't want to do much extreme stuff as he is only new to 4wding but it ended up being a very hard day out. Lots on winching as the tracks were quite sloppy and slippery. As to the 3rd last pic, someone has cut down some trees off the the far left to make a chicken track, although that was quite hard as well.

I took completely the wrong line here. not sure this pic does the angle or wheel lift justice. I could have stood in the rut and my head wouldnt have been touching the bottom of my tray. The top of my shoulder would have been at the bottom of the door :?

here are some videos of a trip with one of my mates recently up to the glass house mountains

this was my second attempt at this. the first try i didnt think i was going fast enough so went faster the second time but the result was the same

I used the winch to pull myself forwards as I was stuck on my diffs

my mate made it after taking a different line

Heading up a slippery hill climb out of a creek crossing. We followed this track for a while, had to do some more winching through a different muddy creek and came to a dead end and had to come all the way back

wasn't so easy for my mate with worn all terrains and no diff locks. had to snatch him up which was also hard as there was very little grip on this hill and I had all four wheels spinning and not going anywhere. but got him up eventually

well went out to the glass house mountains again with one of my mates in his pretty stock hilux. had a great day out. lots of 4wding done on a variety of tracks. weather was perfect with most of the tracks nice and dry

still plenty of mud which i found out on the way home as the engine started to overheat due to mud in the radiator :? here are some pics

this was looking a bit tricky to get across so decided to go to the far right which didnt work out well as seen in the next pic

had to winch off that cut tiny paperbark tree in front and it only just held on

Image

after going through some mud, pretty sure that this is why it overheated on the way back

this but didnt look too bad but the deep mud pit beyond this made us turn around as my mate didnt have a snorkle so we didnt want to risk it as the water would have been over the bonnet

yeah i know but i thought that i would try again. when i did get across my mate got stuck in a rut on the opposite side (as seen in one of the videos above) and we had to wait for someone else to come along

it just makes it interesting although I do try and avoid mud where I can but that doesn't seem to be very often

09lux wrote:Wow, the chicken track in the last pic is no longer a chicken track. Haha.

yeah it is very sticky now and there wasn't much to winch off
