Just got back from Mogumber, was a real tough weekend. We prologued (qualified) 2nd in class and for the first time in a while were behind the 8 ball. Went out for section 1 and discovered we had minimal brakes, nursed it around for 3 laps and had managed to put 1 minute on the guy who prologued 1st. Leading the class day 2 and with a good set of brakes under me managed to put another 9 minutes between us to win the class by 10 minutes and secure 6th outright. We are now provisionally 2nd outright in the state championship and still leading the class championship with 1 round to go
Here is some video footage from Mogumber, worth checking it out, got a real nice exhaust note after the latest muffler change, now running MR extractors, not cats, Hooker Muffler all 2.5inch and dumps out the side before the rear wheel http://youtu.be/mJH-HQpswsY
Had to make a gearbox change over the weekend. Not sure whats wrong with the old one, but the gears were crunching badly and once we pulled it out in neutral it would all turn as if it was still in gear. So we changed the box and took it for a test run and its all good. Also put in 4.1 diff ratios and what a difference it makes! Anyone who hasnt done the diff ratio mod yet should seriously consider it, it really makes the world of difference
Had a story posted about our race team today ahead of the big race this weekend. 6 Hour enduro with both the outright and class championships we are in contention for.
Read through your whole thread mate, loving the lux!
Especially that exhaust note, makes me wish i got the V6 now!
Also, you can change the CAM profile to give you more low down torque for pulling out of the corners and off the line, no doubt you are loving those 4.1's also!

Hey mate, get in touch with Sonny from Down South Motorsport. He ships international and set our shocks up for us before sending them out
Thanks for the kind words guys, hope to have some more updates just after Hyden
Not the best weekend racing for us... Prologued 2nd in class and midpack overall, over the first 3 and a half laps worked our way past about 8 or 9 competitors and on corrected time was leading the class and in good shape to be sitting around the top 5 or 6 outright. Unfortunately developed a real bad misfire and after limping our way to 6 laps and after several pitstops to try rectofy the issue called it quits when we knew we had done enough laps to be classified as a finisher. Ended up scoring enough points to be 1st in Production 4wd for the WAORC and also claimed 3rd Outright for the whole year for the WAORC. We worked pretty hard to track down the issue and it turns out that we had a build up of dirt and muck in the pre pump fuel filter in the tank. Unfortunately its not something we could have done at the track and despite changing coils, spark plugs and fuel filters in the engine bay there is no way we would have been allowed to drop the tank and pull out the filter on a hot car...Bad way to end the year, but still a great result overall
Also a note everyone should keep there eyes peeled for Dirtcomp Magazine as it looks like the hilux will be featured in next months mag
Havent really worked it out yet, just decided to have a bit spare time next year and slowly build something up. It will be Toyota based and fingers crossed ready for 2014. In the mean time we will be finishing the conversion of 80 series to 45 series body with the old mans car and might have that out for a few races
Well the car is sold and to a guy in WA who was racing a 1989 Production 4wd and he is absolutely stoked about it...So now time for a bit of rest and relaxation before we start working on a new car in about 6 months time
Yeah mate, using this prado 120 chassis, tube framing most of the rear, long travel front and rear, lengthen prado wheelbase out to hilux wheelbase, some sort of v8 and then make it lights possible...I can confirm it will look like a new hilux though haha
Gonna be a long build with so much custom jobs to do
Mildly worked Ls1, we are trying for more horsepower but still going to use the Hilux gearbox, hoping it will hold up. The same box I believe goes behing the v8 turbo diesel cruisers which puts out a fair bit of torque. As long as we dont exceed that torque figure by too much it should hold up ok. Unless anyone has any experience or info on how much power can be safely put through them???
