Drew, mate, that's sensational and you have every right to be bloody stoked that your ride is gonna be in the mag. Well done mate. I too will be checking it out in my subscriber copy of 4WD Action. You didn't have the beast down around Lithgow ( I know it's a long way from home for ya ) the other weekend did ya? Maybe your 'Lux has a stunt double?

Hey well the shoot was a load of fun, we were in the Byfield National Park and 5 Rocks area arround Yeppoon.
The first drama started on the way there... a couple of hrs down the road the bumg in the EGT port in my exhaust fell out, so it was making an awefull noise and no power and still with 3hrs drive to go we limped back the 30kms to a little town, called the exhaust shop and got him to stay open. A quick call to shane (crossport) and got the correct size and thread so the guy could get the right bung straight away and we were back on the road. I was pissed it fell out as i have checked it a few times since getting the exhaust so i dont know what happend there.

There was 2 of us at the shoot me and my mate Trav and his GU Patrol, unfortunatly all my 4wding mates drive nissans... all patrols, im the only toyota and only ifs....

The shoot started off with the detailed shots inside and out before we got dirty. Then off thru the pine forests and scrubby rainforrests for some nice rocky creek crossings, there was some huge ruts getting down to the first creek and i was very impressed going down and back up that I didnt bottom out and how easy i did it with the lockers. Unfortunatly the lighting was crap in the ruts and we didnt get any articulation pics.

Image
Taking some under body pics of travs patrol

We then headed out to the beach for some more freash water creek driving then on down to the orange bowl.

we went right up the top of the highest dune so the ocean was in the background and flicked some sand at the photographer. Unfortunatle as we havent had much rain since march the sane was soooooooo soft. I forgot i had the front locker in, hit a very soft patch and it went straight down, the sand spun the wheels to full lock and BANG went the passenger outer CV !!!!!    tore the boot, grease and metal all over the joint lol
Image

The maxx traxx wouldnt work as i was too far down, we tried to snatch me out with the patrol but it then got bogged too. He wasnt too bad thought and the maxx traxx got him out, so trav came arround the front and i winched off him.
Image

After 30 min on the shovel...
Image
Image

I limped down in 3wd and we had some luch in the shade as the bloody sand was about as hot as the freaking sun!!!!
And a few beers to brighten the cv incident.

We let the tyres down some more to 10psi and limped arround in 2wd with the rear locker in and made it off the beach and up to the point for some more nice pics to finish off the day.

We limped out of the park and my mate met me at the entrance with a car trailer after another call to crossport we decided not to risk it with the ginding and banging and cruching noises on the highway. And let me tell you my mates wont let me live it down the toyota on a trailer behind the nissan :( :( :(
Image

A call to the local toyota and a $1500 quote for the new cv only without fitting i wasnt verry happy......
Trav called QLD cruisers and the girls took off to Rocky and picked up a 2nd hand unit only done 30,000kms for $200 and a carton of Gold lol. Spent yesterday puting it in on my mates front lawn and its as good as new. I have definatly lernt my lesson with that front locker and will now be much more carefull with it.

All in all it was a great few days away

You poor poor bastard.... it could have only been worse if it was a Triton towing you...

Good work on the cheap CV.... Forgetting you got the locker on is always an issue... you normally pick it up on firmer ground due to the steering resistance.

Greeat shots though.... :D

Yeh i wont live it down in a hurry. The front was good for the pull up the dunes it that mega soft sand but no feeling in the wheel due to the slip. They rekon the lead time is about 3mths so it should be out arround then.
Oh and i also got covered in bloody ants out of a tree, trav stired thm up then i walked thru and got covered in a few hundred of the big buggers, ive never got undressed so fast in my life, not even for a model hahaha

great couple of pics drew! will be keeping an eye out in the mag for your shoot.....

With thw cv, did you replace it with a stronger one or just standard strength??

Just a standard one, its a genuin one but 2nd hand it had only done 30,000kms though so should be fine. Only 5000kms than what mine has done. I would love to put some stronger ones in but then where do i move the weak point too ???? and i needed one quick so i could get home

Great pics Drew, I am guessing your running an air locker front? I am not a fan of them in IFS at all as they have no give, cant believe that price for a genuine CV thats crazy :o

Drew thats bad luck mate....and to make it worse your Toyota dealer has over quoted you....list price on a new CV is 1045 not 1500!

I wouldnt replace a CV with an aftermarket unit...toyota ones a plenty string, trust me...like Boof said, theres no give with a front locker and you have to use it delicately......

the weak point is when the wheels are turned and the locker on when the CV is at its fullest and weakest angle......only ever use the front locker when the wheels are straight ahead, if you need to turn, turn the locker off, then turn once you straighten up, put the locker back on if needed.
