You still need some bolts to keep the canopy on by the looks of it, have you settled on a method for this yet?

Are you still heading to the Cape soon?

yeah, going to bolt through the tray corners. will add some extra bracing just in case.

I'm still keen for the big trip, but it's hard to get much done when recruiters keep calling. Also, I'm currently short listed for a high profile role. If that comes through, then I'll be a wage slave for a while longer.

took the truck to Ultimate yesterday, added a leaf to the rear and changed rear shocks to the big gas monotubes. very happy with the ride even tho it is empty

today was a visit to the auto sparky. removing the crap from the previous sparky and wiring up my new tail lights, light bars, UHF and dual battery.

also had 2 recruiters call! I didn't say no, but I did say I'm going away SOON unless I get an offer

list of things left to do:

framing in the canopy
finish mud guards (add a bit of rubber so they're 100% legal)
wire up the winch
fit bash plates
add some extra protection for the radiator (using plastic gutter guard)
fit the awning

Which bash plates did you go for Craig. I've got a panelbeated set of Tjm ones that need to be re installed but I smashed the radiator supprt bracket and it doesn't fit anymore. Boatie, a mate of mine was supposed to leave for a trip out West today still had the dash off this morning when I rang him to check to see if his lightbar bracket that I made for him fitted...

well it's good to see I'm not the only one doing last minute jobs (or is that jobs at the last minute?)

I've had a full set of Bud's standard plates installed for some time, but I've recently installed the MR diff drop. So I need to install the plate (under engine) that goes with that (will only take 2 minutes). Interestingly, I had to grind a small amount out of the back/end of the bash plate because the diff drop brackets were in the way. Anyway, that is done and fitted up.
I also have a sheet of 3mm checker (alloy) that I had made up to cover the gap between the Bud's flat plate bar and the radiator (does not block air, just stones). it still needs some minor modification to be able to fit

Keep going Craig, more working, less forum chatter   I get it all the time.....

Interesting as you say, my Buds engine plate didn't fit either and needed a small adjustment with an angle grinder.

I'm going to drop in at Bud's Customs on the way north, they're going to end cap the chassis rails with a receiver (like Toddies)

You gonna chuck a water tank or something under the tray? Plenty of room under there, may as well use it. Put some pics of the car from further away so we can see the whole set up.

Cheers,

Chris.

Rod, we're leaving early Tuesday morning!

Chris, I'd like to lower the tray by 50mm and then fill the gap (around 225mm) with water and fuel tanks and maybe lift the spare. either way, further work is gonna have to wait till I get back.

we're due in Darwin mid-August!

Fair enough. I'm super jealous. Wish we could go again soon.

How are you carrying water for the trip? You would need to carry a bit with 4 people.

Cheers,

Chris.
