Im really getting used to the lockers now and it is amazing how far they take you (im limited by my excessive clutch slipping). i was talking to some guys in a patrol and live axle hilux on the weekend and they were very surprised where i was able to put the newer hilux.

I have also secret plans in the works for some custom fabrictions on the hilux which i will hopefully be able to build in the next new weeks. fingers crossed.

Well today I ordered a Tigerz11 Rooftop Tent and Annex that they currently have on special for $825 + P&H. With this I will be buying a foxwing awning soon as well. This made me think that i dont want to pack up camp every time i want to go for a drive around the area im camping so I have decided to customise my current canopy so that i can lift it off the hilux in a matter of minutes. I shall be starting tomorrow as I have a day off work. Pic and progress will be added as the build comes along.

it not going to be the "jack off" brand (way too expensive) but my own creation with a bit of alterations to the base of the canopy to bulk it up so it can free stand and then inserting four 40x40x2 square bar posts/feet into four 50x50x4 slots welded onto the canopy i should be able to raise the canopy using my high lift jack and changing the height of the legs with different pins (similar to the pin for the tow bar) in different holes located up and down the legs. this will also allow me to make it level once i drive the hilux away

hopefully it will end up something like this one in the link below

Looking forward to see how your jack-off build goes. I like that tent in the link you posted. Bit Exy for that canopy though.

Cheers,

Chris.

Loving the idea ben, have a 2 mates that just made jack off canopies 1 for a hilux extra cab the other for a cruiser both up cape atm. Unfortunatly the hilux owner isnt on this site its looking pre wiked atm  when designing he found a lack of room inside without the canopy sticking over the cab like a saw thumb. so they decided to put a linier actuator in each corner that lifts the roof 35inchs, then mounted the bed level with the frame, so you have 35 inches of sleeping room and all the room below the bed to store gear. actuators are strong enough to lift approx 500kg from memory. will try find some photos

Good luck

well i have pretty much finished the jack off tray that I have been making over the weekend. Pretty much a full redesign of what i previuosly had as you can see in the pics below. I used 50x50x4 RHS and 40x40x3 RHS for the new heavy duty floor and posts. Still needs a bit more tinkering but from the outside it appears exactly the same as it was before but now it will accommodate a roof top tent and be able to be jacked off in about 10-15mins once i get a handle on the best ways of doing it. enjoys the pics. a lot of hard work has gone into this. If you have any questions then dont be afraid to ask. I will now be redesigning the interor shelving to include a fridge slide and better storage bits and pieces.

Very nice work dude. looks pretty sturdy. Not trying to knock your workmanship or anything. but why is the back left leg on an angle? or are they all like that and it's just the camera angles?
