Finally got a replacement water tank under warranty after the first one split.
This time i have braced it underneath with some 25x25mm steel with an angled piece either end that takes up the mounting bolts.

On a lesser note, have had some grease escaping from rear drivers hub. Wheel bearing where replaced 3 months ago, so took it back to mechanic and all seamed good with the bearings :?:
He seems to think there is a pocket of air between the back of the bearing case and a bearing seal/retainer.
So there is some pressure build up there and it is pushing some excess grease out of the bearings??? Sounds a bit F$%kin odd to me :?
Anyone have a better idea??

Just some info for you and maybe your mechanic . When replacing rear wheel bearings on the axle of these hiluxes with abs. The bearing is pressed on then the abs ring and retainer . The retainer is where the axle seals run. There is a distance/height measurement from the bearing so the retainer is in the correct position to contact the seal. I've had a couple of hiluxes in the last 2 weeks with this issue. Bearings done elsewhere. Last one cost the owner 2 wheel bearings and new brakes , all 2 months old. He's now going back to the original installer.

OK thanks, so what is this distance / height that he should be aiming for?

Re: JAKES V6 - bashplate mod

Postby jakelux on Sun, 13 May 2012 8:00 +0000

Modded my buds plate for extra clearence :D
Crossmember braces and swaybar had to go and i managed to just move the power steering tubes out of the way to clear the 'flipped' plate.
Spaced out the bottom of the plate with a bit of tube and plate on the end which houses the bottom bolts so they are recessed into the bashplate as they would of been pretty exposed down there (just big enough for socket). Cut of side wings of bashplate with the thought of 'flipping' them over but didn't really work so i may weld on another little piece up the sides.

To remove the plate and put the swaybar back on with the impact driver is no more than a 15 minute job for on road use.
Crossmember braces are still in one piece if they are needed again oneday :D

Removing swaybar really frees up the front end
A little more trimming inside the guards will be required to runs 33's on only 2 inch lift without sway bar...
