Wite regard to the flares... mine are identicle to Rods...

And yep.. caught with my pants down... the utes in to get the snake blocks I got from Macca fitted. Shane (crossport) fought well and got them on but after a quick drive he has it back. Nothing wrong with workmanship, the lift is to much. It's sitting around 790, the first 3 ribs on the cv boot are touching/rubbing with the 4th ot far of. Even steering is has more resistance.... Shane might be able to grab a pic before removing for me of the CV angles etc...

He's arranged for a guy to shave of the lift blocks. Will see ho much we can take of but if I can shave 5 - 10 mm of the blocks it'll bring the lit back to 770+mm which I reckon will be spot on...

So its another day in the Vitara.... I know many of you love these cars but they have me utterly confused. They feel like a truck when your in it, scary to drive at speed... and everytime I parked it today I thought I was parking my lux and was looking to fit it in the parking spot only to get out with a metre of gap on eiter side... They are tiny.... Great little scooter for around town but yeah.... Bring back the Lux...

And dont get me started on keys.... I left Shane twice today without any... Seriously... Im lead contender for "Tool of the Week!!"

Quinny my guess is that you will have to take 10mm off those spacers to drop it 20mm at the guards
Mine rose 10mm with 5mm spacers hope it helps
Or you could just get some steel winch cable, dual battery, a good set off Horns that should weight it done abit
don't forget to allow for anything else you might do to it

Possums right mate....whatever you take off the spacer, double it at the wheels.....

something to keep in mind.

The issue will be wether or not we can take the 10mm of to get it down 20mm... it may only allow for us to take of 5 - 10 so will wait and see...

I thought Max found a thinner spacer. Scratch your grey matter now Max and enlighten us

I did, it was in the suspension section somewhere, Ill see if I can find it again.

the studs, just to note are longer to replace the factory studs at the top of the strut assy to accomadate the extra spacer.....

If the snake blocks cant be done then I reckon I'll go down this path.... its just what Im after...

Cool, look forward to when you get it up and running, I'm struggling to work out how to deal with installing my head unit back into the audio set up. Just about got the custom circuitry designed, just got to build it now.

Quinny have u thought about running those diff spacers/rotators. i no they don't give ur diff a full inch drop but they may be just enough to let the cv's operate fine

Marshwa, Not sure what you mean... for the front or.....

I used to have 50mm blocks in the rear of my older ute... they work well if your not interested in changing the ride characteristics...

Had a good look and measured again this morning, almost thought it might have been possible to do a steering tie rod end flip,which would have helped with the severe steering rod angles, but it's not because of the taperd fit.
So time to pull it all out and get the spacers off to the lathe for a trim down.

You know if you wanted to you could get away with it.....the 2 inner CV ribs, they are touching yeah? or "just"touching"..?????

Quinny, Paul ran his sr5 for 35,000km without any problems at 5" lift with all ribs touching....abit much I know, but they can take abit.

if you are ahppy with the front height, try and find some high angle inner boots.

the front locker will help with less down travel offroad, just dont turn the wheel when you have it engaged!

Shane, with those blocks fitted how does it look on the ute - is the front higher than horizontal or perfectly flat?

sell the blocks, leave it as it was and just wait abit until I get my bodylift and you can follow too for some more height?

quinny i mean the front, the wizard kit i bought supplies them with it i've been running mine for about a mounth now but i no drew has been running his alot longer. if u have a look at his build up his got some pics. They pretty much rotate ur diff forward an inch giving u about 0.5" drop over ur cv's angles, making a 3" lift have the affects of a 2.5" lift on ur cv's, both snake and wizard sell them. Not to sure of the negative afects tho, but just something u could consider. think there around $100 and take less then 10 minutes to install.

mmaaxx, I'll keep the blocks in... if they can be machined down and get me to 770mm I'll be pitchen a tent all the way to Pinnibah tomorrow.

1. they will assist with my bashing the guards with the tyres under full flex, will increase the bumpstops to accomodate also...

2. at 790mm the missus needed a rpe ladder to get into it... Did sit okay (flatish with rear slightly lower) but the rear would have required lifting 20 - 30 mm to kick it up again...

3. The steering was heavier... I'd imagine this would then cause wear and stress somewhere in the steering components...

4. I do alot of Highway klms and sitting on 115klms is the norm for me so I dont want to have it complaining the whole time.. .

5. Marshwa's suggestion will also decrease CV angle to a more acceptable level in the future also...

So at 770mm I'll have in my opinion the sweet spot for height, reliablity, and redneck factor...

yeah 770mm will work well.....

have you got any pics of how it it sitting with the blocks in???so was your lift 3 inches before you put the blocks in or only 2 inches cause i want to lift mine more but i already have 3 inches and wasnt sure how to go about it

steve101, Probably the best way to compare is to measure from the bottom of your rim to the bottom of the flare/guard and provide rim size...

For example,

Mine was lifted to 760mm, after the winch and a few trips of abuse I was back down to 740mm. With the blocks Im hopeing to get to 770mm... This is with a 16 inch rim and flares (Flares account for around 5mm I reckon due to the thickness and shapre of them compared against measuring to the guard)

yeah, my front end is sitting exactly 780mm from memory up to the flare.....an in all honesty, I wouldnt recommend anyone go higher than that......the inner cv bootthe rib's "just" touch or barely miss....you really have to look carefully when sitting on flat ground....that is a full 3".

Quinny, you wanting to go from 740 to 770 you need a 15mm thick spacer......how thick were the snake ones you got again?
