No worries mate. Knocked them up myself. Think I might have taken a pic for someone on the forum. Will have a look for you and take a pic tomorrow if I need to

I remember those pics, forgot that you installed the driving lights in the bar. Looks sweet, so clearly I don't need much to space it out. Cheers for that.

Going past the old mans place today, hopefully he has some scraps I can steal from his garage.
Cheers,
Jay

I've never seen an axis bar but I tbink you need more of a gap to get rid of the bar, julia gillard has more sex appeal than the axis

Haha I thought the same.
Love the Axis bar!

Painted behind the bar black, and the bottom of the lights black, and adjusted the bar and put a spacer in.
It's helped massively. The gap is probably half the size as is was now, and the black hides the rest well.

Will shoot up a pic soon.
Cheers,
Jay

So this weekend, I got my hands on some plasti-dip from Supercheap.
Tested it behind the bullbar and the bottom of the headlights to help give the illusion there's not as much gap. Plasti-dip works better than I thought. Pretty easy to apply.

Also got two jacks out, cut up some steel and used them as spacers at the top mount bolts. Turned out there was room for the bar to go up a little too. It's closed the gap heaps, glad to say I'm happy with it now.
Noticed this morning the passenger side is about 3mm lower though, so need to adjust it again slightly. But it's nothing obvious. Also noticed the drivers side has more room to go up than the passenger. Not sure how or why, but thought that was odd.

The bar doesn't look like it's gonna fall off any more

If I get time next weekend, i'm going to take off the roll-bars and give them a few coats with the black plasti-dip. See how they turn out.
Cheers,
Jay

Mine was the same Jay. The plate on the bottom of the axis bar fouls on one chassis rail so it can't be lifted any higher.

Cleaned my MAF sensor yesterday.

Safe to say it was pretty dirty.

If all goes to plan might be able to get wheels (finally) by end of next week. Getting excited.

Decided to try plasti-dip the sports bars and rear bar this weekend.
I think they come up good! About 3 coats each. Pretty easy to do. Loved the idea of not having to sand it all down and being able to peel it off if I didn't like it.

May get it properly powder coated one day, but at the moment i'm liking the matt black quite a lot.

Thanks! :D

Would have worked out to about a can and a half - two cans.
It dries pretty quick too, bout half hour - an hour and I was putting it all back on the car.
Cheers,
Jay

Keep an eye on the top section of the rollbar as plastidip doesn't like sun very much, my wheels faded after around 2-3months (parked outside though).

Heaps good build and a proper good truck.

Def, I think my 10 yr old cousin could do it. It's so much easier than I thought it'd be to apply.

Thanks for the tip. Mines always parked outside. Might just give it a light coat over the top every few months if it starts fading. 8-)

Re: Jaybags' Hilux - Slow build - Finally with new P3's

Postby jaybags on Sat, 15 Mar 2014 4:13 +0000

Got my wheels today, literally had to drive around Melbourne for them.
First stop to pick up the steel wheels from Huntsman Products, then down to Lindsays Tyres.

They're the new Mickey Thompson ATZ P3's 32"/11.5/15 on 15x8 with 0 offset steel wheels. They look smick in my opinion! Started raining later today and they've handled the wet quite well too. A little noisy on the highway but nothing too noticable, not near as much as a muddy. Just gotta get my leasing company to re-enburst me now. Tyres were $336each.

I'm pretty stocked with 'em!

Image

Had to take the front mud-flaps off too, they were rubbing as soon as I tried to turn anywhere. They literally just fit.
Image

Think it would have been a struggle getting any bigger. Need to get a wheel alignment now too.
Cheers,
Jay
