JAKES V6 - HD clutch is in!

Postby KTM525EXC on Sun, 13 Nov 2011 2:18 +0000

Jake so your saying the clutch doesn't allow you to ride It at all? It's more either engaged or disengaged? Do you think it is like that because it needs to bed In more?

Sounds like it will take some getting used to, but if it is that tight now, it will be more of a case of you getting used to it, rather than the clutch bedding in to a point where it can be ridden out like a stock one.

Yes it is deffinatley gonna take a little while to get used to and I'm hoping that it does 'Bed in' a little.
I currently have this technique going (from the stand still) where i give a little rev, just let the clutch out a little till it takes then drop it and push the go pedel   would be very amusing to watch as a passenger.
Have stalled quite a few times on hill starts which is always a bit embarrising, a couple of times i stalled and the engine fully stopped (dash lights on) then half a second later it starts up again and I'm away!! Now thats a strong clutch.. won't even let you stall :o
I should note that i have the 33 inch muddys on at the moment as well. I may bolt the 31 inch road tyres on until i get used to it a bit more.

Like i said previouslly once on the go and crawling at low speeds through traffic and high speeds on highway it feels really f%$king nice :D Just getting started is the problem.

Everything has its pros and cons, you might find in 6 months that clutch will be the best thing since sliced bread...

It's good to hear you got the clutch fitted. It might just take a bit to get used to as Jap said. As a clutch wears, the pedal comes further off the floor. I've found in a couple of cars I've owned, that replacing the clutch (even with a standard replacement) takes a bit of getting used to as it's a lot closer to the floor.

The 4terrain clutch does have the button face on one side which changes the pedal feel a little bit, but overall it's pretty close to standard. You will really notice the benefits of this clutch when towing or off road ;)

Bit of an update:
Getting used to the clutch, not sure if its 'worn in' a little or I'm just more used of the feel but it feels pretty good (not fantastic).

Exhaust started roaring out in the bush a couple weeks ago, got underneath and there was one bolt missing and the other just holding on by a thread between the header tube and cat on left hand side... couple days before lux was at mechanic gettin' clutch done, he would of had to take that section of pipe off to get to clutch so musn't of tightened nuts properlly

Busted a left hand CV, once i got it home on the bench it wasn't as bad as i thought, tore the crap out of outer boot and there a bit of damage there but can get it repaired so will put it back in. For now have a repco CV in and the boot quality is absolute shit... the inner rubber boot is all mushed in.

I was also losing a bit of air between the left hand manifold and head so relaced left and right gaskets, old ones wern't to bad but had a fair bit of gritty shit between.
Image

Finally got around to wiring up the LED light bar, ran it directly through 40amp relay, and fused power block. Fark it's bright, shits all over HID's IMO.
Image

Got a 35 litre slimline tank off fleabay
Image

At 60mm thick it slipped perfectly under the tray, bolted it on with some angle through the 50x50 rails on the tray and into the 8mm nuts that are housed into the side of the tank.
Image

Hose fitting with stop tap to fill it up
Image

Cabled tied the tap above towbar for now but will make some sort of retarctable copper pipe that can slide in and out of the back of the tray.
Image

Off touring up the east coast of TAS for a week and then TAS peninsula for New years... yeee haa

Hey Jake, nice build. Have you thought about changing diff ratios to suit your 33's to get rid of you takeoff stalls?

After a week of touring up the east coast of Tassie my rear wheel bearings gave in, was a bit scary when my mechanic got them out and showed me they have about 5mm play side to side :o
Replace both rears with Terrain Tamer ones.
Water tank lasted one week then split along the bottom  was all bolted up to the manufacturers specs but obviouslly not designed for hardcore offroading. It really needs supports under it to sit on not just bolts into the side of it.

Besides those couple little dramas had a nice week away with the fam up the East, North and North East of TAS

Our camp at Bay of fires..... :D just magic.

This riverbed same time last year was undrivable with a couple foot of slushy black quicksand..

And it is Tassie there's always mud

East coast of TAS is a little tamer for Four wheelin (compared to the wild West) but some great family touring to be had and loads of places to camp.

Re: JAKES V6 - Chopped Tray

Postby jakelux on Sun, 05 Feb 2012 6:28 +0000

When i originally got my tray built I wanted it built to 1750mm overall length. Tray builder must of lost the Memo 'cause he built it 1900mm long! Which was good for work carrying sheets, 1/2 meter of sand etc etc.. but way to long for a dual cab IMHO. Not only did it look a little queer but my departure angle was only just better than a stock tub.

So out came the grinder this weekend

Was tossin around for weeks on how much to cut off, but just bit the bullet and cut it down to 1680mm OA!!
Gotta give credit to my original tray builder though cause those welds where f$#kin good

Depature angle is awesome! Looks 200% better and won't make me overload it to much (rear suspension is rooted  )

Crap pic but you get the idea...
