Isn't there a lot of Hiluxes driving around in South America?
Wouldn't that be a shorter lead time for ordering parts, if you where to find any that is?

Just occurred to me that I remember seeing many of the Tacoma guys i follow on Instagram jump on their breaks when they see a Hilux suddenly appear just over the boarder(Mexico plates).

Absolutely true, I've attempted contact with Toyota dealerships in several countries in Central and South America (in english and spanish) and no one even replies. I'm not sure what else to do, I can't find any parts distributors or anything online based in SA... Very strange.

I just recently found a US Toyota warehouse that apparently serves the Mexican market as well and I've ordered the windows through Toyota. It's been a week long process so far and some paperwork back and forth. Amongst other disclaimers it's an absolutely as-is sale with zero support or refunds. Very strange from Toyota themselves, let's hope I get the right windows!

Thats crazy! Even from Toyota themselves not answering...

Hope your window deal comes through and they could probably help you in the future with parts!

After forty some days I received the front windows and they are the correct part. I tinted them at 30% and installed the RH glass and window belt. Tonight and tomorrow I'll be installing the Killmat and glass in the LH.

Finished the driver side glass and dynamat, I can say that even without having done the rear doors or floor there is a big difference in road noise and especially solidity of front doors. waiting on a darker tint for the rear doors so it'll be a couple of weeks before my next update.

Thanks! I'll let you know how it sounds when it's all installed, and I agree on the Audis, I had an A3 and it was a pleasure to drive.

Well, 3 out of 4 of those aftermarket CV boots failed in a few hundred miles... Definitely should've gone OEM. Ordered them from the same place I got my windows and this time Toyota wanted NHTSA and import documentation which Obviously don't exist for an 08. Luckily I was able to find two full OEM CVs for a really good deal from a place in TX so I'll reboot these again and keep them as spares. Standstill until those arrive and I get some time to put them on. :(

Am I hearing correctly that Toyota won't sell you parts without import documentation? If so that's outrageous and should be seen as trade restrictions which is illegal according to free trade agreements! You can probably buy all the guns and ammo you want without documentation
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

You are hearing correctly, I don't know on what grounds they are refusing to sell them. My guess is sice it's not technically road legal here they don't want to be seen as supporting it. And yes, guns are much easier to procure for me than Hilux parts. CVs arrived yesterday and look to be correct and genuine, will get them on ASAP.

Got the new OEM Toyota CVs installed yesterday, just have to service up the diff and give it a test run. Also took the opportunity to clean the suspension and wheel wells and reapply Fluidfilm. Let's hope for a longer service life this time...

Mechanically it's getting close. I still have a lot of work planned though. Off the top of my head I've got:

-Body work and paint
-Interior, steering wheel swap, stereo, seat covers etc.
-Line-X bed
-Full length roof rack
-Wheels and tires
-4Runner brake swap
-Stainless exhaust

And miscellaneous stuff. Also Norweld tray someday...

4runner rear or just front brakes? Are they the same as the 120 prado here?

I'm not sure on the Prado brakes, I know the 4runner brakes require a 17" wheel to clear the caliper and the Tacoma a 16". Not sure which one I'll end up with. I'd love to swap the rear end out for a limited slip one with disk brakes but not much data out there on the swap

Got the windows and windshield tinted, really helps out with the UV and heat, very pleased.

Also repainted and baked the light mounts and replaced the rusty hardware with stainless.

The Prado and 4Runner are basically the same under the skin (the V6 versions are identical), so it is basically the same upgrade we do, which also requires 17" rims.
