Really good work, but dont be hating the sr. For the money saved you can put some flares on yourself. I have an sr and can't think of any reason id want a sr5. Plus i think plastic instead of carped it the best. I just sweep all the shit out with a little broom.

anyways looking good.

Re: Pov Pack Project, Bash plate mock up

Postby Thunderbolt on Tue, 05 Mar 2013 5:43 +0000

Everyone uses CAD and solid modeling programs but after too many years as a CAD jockey I hate it! For this little project I went back to the old way and did my mock up with some cardboard and a stanley knife :D
Dropped off the templates to the steel fabricator to cut and bend sheet and hopefully they will be ready to pick up on Friday for me to weld, grind, drill and paint. I have made a couple of minor adjustments after these photo's were taken, extended the flats that cover the sway bar, and I'll also fab some slider "caps" to go over the diff locating bolts

Re: Pov Pack Project...Front bash plate done

Postby Thunderbolt on Wed, 20 Mar 2013 3:35 +0000

Been a bit slow but the cardboard template has made the transition to steel.Plenty of cutting, welding and drilling after the folded up blank came back from the steel fab guys

With tie downs and radiator support brackets removed, sway bar moved forward

Bash plate fitted, plenty of ground clearance and only lose about 5mm under sway bar

I made some slider caps for the diff locating bracket bolts and welded them on the back of the bash plate. Also drilled a few holes for ventilation and a slot at the junction of the cross member and the plate so I can hose out any shit that accumulates in there

Finally got my diff bash plate done. I included some 50x6 flats on the sides to add some protection for the diff locating brackets. Also drilled a hole in the bottom of the diff hump to drain water and cut out the back of the bash plate to leave a slot in front of the cross member to drain mud and crap from top of the plate. Painted it with a bit of cold gal cos that's what I had :)

Thanks Ash, rear leaves are sitting in the driveway, then lockers and diff gears.

Later on I'll probably do poly water and diesel tanks under tray, a canopy and dog box, and maybe a RTT for some outback touring

3.55 ratios in a 4WD, what were Toyota thinking? With 4.11 and 33's I should have a useable 1st low again for bush work.

Matty at Monster Rides is supplying the diff gears :)
