Timing Belt Issue ? 5LE Motor

Postby redback on Fri, 03 Jun 2011 7:30 +0000

I replaced my 5LE engine timing belt at 200,00km. I lined all marks perfectly for timing except 1 tooth out on pump. Ive since driven a further 10,000km with no worries, fuel consumption improved from 11.5 to 9.3l/100km.Happy with that.In hot weather though rough idle with aircond on.My question is should I redo the timing and get it spot on despite the trade off for fuel economy, and what damage could be occuring. Cheers Dan :?:

We often advance tired motors to help cold starting but not a whole tooth. If you go too far the diesel knock is very noticeable. Retarding would probably give better fuel consumption as like a petrol but i am not sure, the fuel has less time to burn, white smoke. I would have thought a whole tooth would make it gutless.
My wife say's I am not completely useless, I can serve as a bad example for others
