Royalpurple and penrite is all I use, but the lux is under warranty still so whatever Toyota finds on special that week I recken
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

For a Toyota mota, any oil will do (generally), I have customers that want cheap! They come back at 20 or 30 or up to 60k later......never had any issues with those engines, again done over 200k.....
If you want it to last forever, change it every 10k or 5k if you insist.

Don't use special low ash formulas designd for d.p.f vehicles. (usually expensive ones).

I used to change my car oil every 5000klms, mobil 1, what waste of oil and money....
My engine bearings wore, metal filings came out with oil at 170,000klm at 190 it was knocky as!
Rebuild..... Subaru warranty.......

A mate used to take my clean 5000klm oil and put it in his cars.... Tight ass! :-)
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.
Cheers, Anth - Technician - 1KD-FTV

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear
no chips no tune ups - why increase risk of piston cracking?

I need to change my manual gearbox oil on my D4D. Does anyone know what size the drain plug is on the gearbox? I have a feeling it is 23mm or similar in imperial. I've just had a frustrating time not being able to find a spanner or socket bigger than 22mm at home. There is not enough room to fit a shifter in there.

Thanks in advance.

As a mechanic myself, I will admit I work on mainly trucks but please please please do not use a shifter. These are known as portable lathes! They are handy in the right situation but are perfect for creating a rounded off edge to the plug or bolt which you are tightening or loostening. Your better off using the right tool for the right job!
Different people swear by different oils, you can be pushed into buying over priced, under performing oil and filters, but if it is within the engine requirements (guidelines in manual or speak to toyota as to what may be suitable if you are concerned about it)as to what your local auto barn or auto pro etc is advising, you should be safe. If you know a Tradie, you may be able to get them to use a trade discount- they will know what is ment.
The company i work for uses fleetgaurd ( which has proven to me over years to be good quality)
Hope that's some helpful advice
Cheers

1GR-FE 4.0 V6 - including standard Hilux and TRD Hilux Australia and USA TRD Tacoma
Mobil 1 5w-30

Front Diff - including Prado, Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

Transfer Case - including Prado, Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

5 Speed and 6 Speed manual - including Prado, Hilux - 2005 onward and USA TRD Tacoma
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

Rear L/S Diff - including Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil 1 Syn Gear Lube LS 75w-90

Interesting note on the Delvac gear oil:
It’s the only oil strong enough for 100,000klm in most Road Ranger boxes and its a “Life” fill on other boxes.

If I was not using Synthetic oil I would use Shell as they still produce some of the worlds best mineral engine & gear oil.

Has anyone tried CAT DEO (diesel engine oil), 15w40... Since I work for caterpillar it would be a convenient option for me.

Cheers

Last time I checked Cat oil was made by Mobil Delvac - very good oil and there's noway Cat would use a poor product.

Call Cat Australia on 1300 881 064 to ensure you get the correct Cat oil for your Lux - there are 6 versions of Cat 15w40.

I have looked online for you and Cat does not provide a recommendation tool.

In the Castrol range, Magnatec Diesel 15W-40.
It's got a few more additives than RX.

Toyota oil only then there's to come back on warranty claims that you used the wrong oil.

Just the multigrade oil. I have used this oil in pretty much everything I have serviced including a 2008 SR5 hilux which currently has 340k km on it.

Also, the only reason I have stopped using Delo 400 is because where I used to buy it has closed down and haven't found another to buy it. Having high hopes for the Castrol Vecton.
