Yeah the hose from the filler plug would work. However when you drain the diff you will always have a couple hundred millilitres of oil left inside, still in the bearings etc, unless you let the diff drain for an hour.
Maybe check the diff is full. Drain it out like you normally would and measure how much came out. This way you will know how much needs to go back in.
The only other issues with the hose idea are that it will be extremely slow to fill (thick oil + skinny hose = slow flow). Also if you develope a leak and can't get it fixed immediately, such as on a trip, you can't check the oil level in the diff and add small amounts of top up.

Yeah all good points. To work properly it would need to be measured when empty & when full. The hose is easily fixed with a slightly larger diameter. Eg 10 mm i.d. Also a little resoviour at fill point would also mean chuck it in let it fill whilst doing something else.

Ive probably got most of the stuff sitting around except braided hose.

Might be too hard basket as well.

Lol i have the xact same one kyle! U need gorilla hands to pull it back and gets super messy when it starts dripping everywhere from the suction pipe. But a few pumps and your done! Holds like 500mls each pull. Beats the small little hand pumps that take 18hrs to fill. Lol

When I was rnning my diff gears in and replacing the diff fluid a couple times I found a quick way that worked for me.

Drain bucket under the diffs of course, but I dont have a spare tyre under my tub so I have heaps of clearance.

I have a long tube funnel, I got the end of a silicon gun dispensor, you know the white plastic pointy bit you screw onto the silicon tube?

I cut it to size and dropped it inside that long funnel I have. gave it a push so it stays there.

I think held it with one hand in position on the rear diff and with the other filled the funnel with the diff fluid side on, took me no more than a good 5 or so minutes with brief pauses for the air to escape and fluid to drain in.

was heaps quicker than using a hand pipe.

I used the same method for the front diff aswell, thou I had to remove the LHF wheel for better access with the funnel but it made the process so much quicker.

I changed my left hand side drive shaft today and lost about 70 to 100mls of oil.
I didn't have any oil to to top, so she's all back together now and driving.

Do you think it would be bad if I left it like this until the next diff oil change in about 20,000 kms.

I just brought a 1lt castrol diff oil bottle and use it to the diffs. It has a flexible platic pourer on it. So top it up with your prefered lubricant (nulon for me) and just refill bottle and repeat until oil comes back out the hole.

Dogfish, it maybe alright but would only take you 10 mins max to top the oil up for security in the future. Worst case senario probly $600 for a rebuild, but thats the worst case

Best tool for diff oil.
Buy a TOM THUMB hand pump. Has 1L reservoir with bout 15" hose and small metal U shaped nozzle on end to get into tight places and it hangs inside filler hole without falling out. Self returning push pump on top of bottle I've used them for 13 years. Cost about $13 at Supercheap.

the 1L pump bottle from super cheap is definitely the way to go except its not $13 its like $35 inflation sucks bad

Hello guys, I have a 2014 sr5 Hilux, and I was going to change out my front diff and rear diff oil. But my manual says use 75-90 in the front ( since my hillux has A.D.D) and use 90LSD for the rear diff oil.

My problem lies here, I live in Barbados and no one stocks straight 90 LSD diff oil.
What we do have is 80-90 LSD.
Can the 80w90 LSD oil work perfectly in my rear diff?
I don't want to change it to that oil and then I have issues with it.

I know I can use the 75-90 for the front diff and the transfer box.

Can someone shade light on this topic for me please?

Mate, people will use what they can get their hands on or is cheap. 80-90w is fine if it is all you can get. This thread here has some info:

i have a 2014 sr5 invincible. would 75w-90lsd oil work well in my rear diff? My manual said us 90lsd. But where i live i cant get 90lsd.

2014 models here have open diffs so you should be okay to use what you use in the front

Hello legends, question, I am about to change the diff oil in my rear and front diff also the transfer case.
Im going to be using Mobil 1 75w/90 full synthetic. I'm going to be using Mobil 1 75w/90 LSD gear oil for my rear diff. Can i also use the same 75w/90 LSD oil in the front diff and transfer case?

Can using LSD gear oil in the front diff and transfer case cause any damage to them?
I know my manual says use 75/90 for the front, but it doesn't say if i can use LSD gear oil or not. ( the manual) says use LSD for the rear diff however.

I've put this on another thread, but it's worth mentioning here as well.
I did the diff oil changes 40000km ago and at that time had to chisel out the plugs for the second time, so I ordered proper Hex head plugs to put in the next time I did the oil change. Bought the plugs from an ebay seller (brakepadsonline) but.....beware!!!! He suppliers the WRONG plugs.
Outcome, of course, was that when I drained the oils recently, I realise that I can't use the plugs I'd bought following the last oil change.
Contacted the seller.....not his problem, because I bought them so long ago. He's still selling them for Hilux front diffs, but THEY DON'T FIT!!!
