Postby JUZ02 on Tue, 19 Apr 2011 7:40 +0000

hi all i have a 2010 hilux only done 17000 klms, i put a CHIP IT on about 6 mnths ago and recently engine light is coming on and it goes into limp mode, i turn it off and on goes back to normal with the engine light still on, the engine light turns off after a day or so.... wondering where to take it to fix this problem under warranty? i put a fault code reader on it and p0093 comes up

Does the error come up with the chip in or removed or both?

I will quote the trouble code but you probably need to talk to your chip supplier about the fault.

P0093/78 (Fuel leaks in high-pressure areas):
This DTC indicates fuel leaks that exist in high pressure areas in the common rail system. The ECM constantly monitors the internal fuel pressure of the common rail after the engine is started. The ECM sets this DTC if the drop in the internal fuel pressure is large when injecting the fuel.
In the common rail system, high-pressure fuel is always supplied to the high-pressure areas including the supply pump, common rail, injectors and piping. The ECM adjusts the suction control valve opening angle to obtain the target internal fuel pressure.
If this DTC is set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. The fail-safe mode suspends both fuel injection and supply pump operation, and then stops the engine. Before stopping the engine, the ECM permits the vehicle to be driven for 1 minute. The fail-safe mode continues until the ignition switch is turned OFF.

For a fuel fault on the common rail with a chip fitted that raises fuel pressure, it would be a good idea to disable the chip for a few weeks to see if the problem goes away.

seen it with early dp chips. i think they rectified an issue on a couple by replacing the actual chip. owners reported same issues and a couple were on trips so disconnected them and ran the rest of the trip with no issues. full tilt on the common rail is 160000kpa , you dont want it running too high pressure for extended periods of time
see the supplier or manufactures website and see if any issues reported

We have been trialling ferrites at 3 locations on the loom. 1 at the chip end of the harness and 1 at either side of the CR plugs.

The ferrites stop RF interference from running down the wires and into the Chip. We have had almost 100% success on the D4D ... the Prado 150 continues to be the issues but 90% of those too were fixed with this add on

These ferrites are what you find on the back of the TV power supply lead and also on power supplies to laptops etc. They are available at any radio shack electrical wholesalers for around $3.00 each.

Let us know how it going on your vehicle please. My number is 0412 304030 if u want to chat

Cheers
