apparantly the good oil is
buy TRD ones
this info came from Gulfstream a member who hasnt been on in a while
Quote from his email

The TRD Iridium Denso Spark plugs VKH20 5618 should be available from any Toyota parts dealer – You will have to be a bit smart with them and just give them the part number first – If they need more information tell them that they are the standard plugs for a TRD Hilux V6.

The buggers are making it hard for standard Hilux owners to by TRD parts for some reason, sometimes they will ask for a VIN – If they still question you say “I have been told by my mechanic in order to stop detonation I need to install these plugs”.

Expect to pay around $15-$17 per plug – there dear suckers but the NGK equivalent is $27 per plug. Oh and one more
Oh and I forgot to add that they will fit any 1GR-FE and that means yours as well – Also please use a torque wrench when installing plugs – 20NW or 15Ftlb only
hope this helps
Drew

I ordered some Iridium plugs today through Toyota.. Gulfstream is right they don't like giving out TRD parts to none TRD owners, wanted a vin or chassis number.
I just dropped the line that i needed them to stop detonation and was all good :D
All they need is VKH20, the other numbers arn't on there database (apparently)
I paid $98 for the 6
8-)

Hi guys sorry I missed this thread

The Denso TRD plugs have the finest electrode on the market - this reduces the possibility of crap adhering to the plug plus it keeps the temp down reducing the chance of detonation. Unlike popular belief that the TRD plugs are a temp lower - they are the same temp range as standard just more reliable!

Because of this that is why TRD installed them - unlike the standard plugs these can go 100,000k and I can attest to the fact that they are still clean at this point.

The standard plugs need to be changed every 40,000klms but because the TRD supercharger restricts easy changing of the plugs TRD upgraded to these.

The quality of these Denso plugs up close compared to an equivalent NKG you would pick the Denso every time.

G'day fellas,

Im digging up an old thread here.
Im looking at the URD website for Denso plugs as they are far cheaper to buy from the states than here. Which ones are you guys using for your standard 1GR-FE?
The IKH20?

Mine still looked good at 80k so I would be happy to go with the Toyota TRD recommendation of 100k

Old thread I know but I have found the following information and might be helpful to someone else.
The IKH20 spark plugs are iridium power.
The VKH20 spark plugs are iridium tough.

From Denso's website,
"The IRIDIUM POWER, with its 0.4mm iridium center electrode and U-groove + tapered cut ground electrode, is a high performance plug providing ultimate running results.
The IRIDIUM TOUGH, with its 0.4mm iridium center electrode and platinum ground electrode, is a high performance plug with an emphasis on longer life.

The ground electrode of the IRIDIUM POWER has a tapered cut and a U-shaped groove on its underside, reducing the quenching effect during flame formation and providing exceptional ignitability.
The ground electrode of the IRIDIUM TOUGH has a platinum at the discharge point, suppressing electrode wear at discharge and providing the working life of a platinum plug."

Both plugs are listed for the 1GR-FE NA and supercharged by Denso.
