Hi,

Just wondering if I should be concerned about going over scheduled service k's?

I'm sitting on around 8,700k at the moment and need to head over to Wyndham from Darwin on Xmas day for a fishing trip.

I'm likely to rack up just over 2,000k on this trip.

Should I just pull up at 10,000K and do my oil and filter and get the service done when I return?? or not worry about oil change until I return to Darwin?

Oil and filter was changed at 5,000k.

Given that this is the vehicle's first scheduled service, can you see any problems from a warranty or vehicle performance perspective if I go 1,500k's or so over, on the service?

Would this void the warranty in anyway by not meeting scheduled service times?

It Is the first service so you may want them to look it over before taking a trip that far, for the sake of a few bucks mate.

Yea I agree with KALL, seeing it's the first service I would be trying to get it done before you head off, even if you do it yourself and just change the oil and oil filter...

yeah a new motor has lots more contaminants in it (metalic) where the motor is bedding in so i would get it done earlier than later. Also with the capped servicing there is a cut off point where they will charge you full if you go over by a cirtain amount.

just a side note on the issue. I bought my car at 44.5K and I found out (before I bought it) that it had missed the 40K service. The previous owner did it no probs at toytota and I even arranged the 3 yr extra care warranty at the same time. I specifically asked toyota if going over by 4.5K would void future claims and they said no it wouldn't. I just had a claim (new gear box at 60K) and there was no dispute in regards to the kilometers. However it still took a month to get fixed (search for posts by me in the 4wd action forum and you'll see the full story).

I would pull up at 10K

Bridge Autos did my 10,000k service at 7900k as I was off down South to Melb. ( 4000 odd k's ). Get it done before the trip if you can.

Dont take my word as gospel but you have done a filter and oil change at 5000ks. (The 1500k service is basically check the dipstick..) Which should have removed most of the contaminants in the oil so if you over run the 10000 service by 2000ks. I dont see it as a huge problem..
Did you use genuine oil and filter for the first service? As toyota will probably spot a non genuine filter and log it in the notes..
Ive always tried to service every 5000ks up until around the 80000 mark. and have let it go now to 10000ks and have overrun it occasionally by 2000 - 4000ks.. as I have been away on trips and didnt want to service it... "if it aint broke dont fix it mentality"
The most important thing with these diesels is clean fuel...
As for any warranty issues still running the original clutch, the motor still has plenty of pull and it knocked over 105000 ks now.

I'll see if the dealer can fit me in before I leave.

If they are unable to, I will do the oil, oil filter and air filter before I head off. (in between cooking Xmas eve dinner and packing.. )

Mark, I did use the Toyota filter at 5,000k's, but I used another brand of oil (Valvoline Super Diesel 15-40w). Just about to fit up your breather kit, once I have another coffee.

So I went to call the dealer and thought "oh f*&^ing deary me" what if they want to do it Xmas eve .

Of course he said we are booked out, but there is a spot on Friday.... I should have put some more thought to this earlier, oh well...

I don't have the utmost of confidence in my local dealer and now they have my car on the one day of year when you can guarantee a shortcut.

Wish me luck...the panic is only slowly setting in.

Just when you get it back check there workmanship

I have a 2007 SR5 TD which has just done 21,000km. The dealer made a comment the other day that it should have had log book services up to 40,000km by now (ie.. it has been serviced by the book only to 20,000km in nearly 3 years). They indicated that due to "missed scheduled servicing", any warranty claims would probably be rejected. Anyone had any experience with "missed scheduled servicing" having an effect to void the warranty?

I've lost count of how many new cars i have owned and never perviously experienced this nonsense. They have tried that several times with my wife's Corolla which just got the 20,000 km service after 3 years. They always ring to try and get it booked in for a service and tell me it won't be warrantied. I told them that if they ever tried something like that with me they would have a fight on their hands due to trade practices act. I reckon it is just the dealers trying to maximise their revenues from the fixed price serviciing. They want to do it every six months.

I would get the brake fluid changed as per the log book as it will absorb water over time whether you drive it or not.
