80k service

Serviced my SR D4D with Toyota dealer (Chadstone Toyota Oakleigh) and thought they did a good job. Two days later i find an oil puddle forming under front of the car. They left a sump plug loose and it took nearly two turns to tighten by fingers !!!
Looked at the oil and it seems rather black so i suspect they probably haven't even changed it. I suspect they had a 16yo learning experience kid doing the service.
How bad are this dealers service departments, all courtesy an polish in communication and even called me Sir but can not tighten a sump plug....
Needless to say if you end up going there at least check you sump plugs. As for me i think i 'll stay away ...

Unlucky to hear, half the reason i do mine myself, doing my 80k tomorrow.

I got a couple mechanic mates and i use there hoist when i service my car, they get so frustrated at me wanting to do everything properly and make sure i get every grease nipple and what not, makes me laugh but feel sorry for people who pay for it at the same time  .

Don't be too conserned about they oil it turns black after about 2 minutes, i'd say a loose sump plug is a good sign they have replaced your oil, pity they didn't finish the job tho.

I am like you - quite fussy about things mechanical , this is first time i used the dealer for a service as i needed seat belt replaced under warranty so thought i let them do the service as well - my mistake. I service my other car (with help of manufacturers service manual) and i bet that no mechanics do all the things required due to their time constraints and general lack of enthusiasm.
DIY (for mechanicaly minded ) is way to go.

So my hilux is due for a service in about 900 ks it will be the 80.000k service I have lost my log book and waiting for a new one to arrive and wondering if the 80k service is a major service or just the oil and filters.
I'm off for a trip this week and will probably get it done before going but like to know what they are going to service so I can check to see it has been done.
Anyone able to list the log book service sheet for me cheers.

80k is a major mate not exactly sure whats on the service schedule but im pretty sure its diff oils, valve clearances and possibly brake fluid along with all the normal stuff done every service. Probably not a bad idea if they havent been done before to change the gearbox (if manual) and transfer case oil as well as the fuel filter (if diesel) as they are not on any of the earlier service schedules

since our engines are a double overhead cam the adjustment is via shims( shims are a series of round plates on top of the valve stem in the head). it the cam to shim adjustment is out of spec they have to remove the cams to change the shims to the correct size to bring the clearance back to spec. at Toyota Townsville they reckon the way they check valve clearance is to just listen to them. the don't pull the tappet cover off and check them with feeler gauge. f#*@kin lazy dodgy c#*ts. and how many kms is on ur engine

Just had the 80 000k service done on mine. picked car up got around the corner and it stalls, struggle to restart engine light and vsc off flashing and very little power to drive managed to turn into back driveway of dealership pull up outside service bay stalls again, HUGE puddle of diesel and dripping out under car. Service manager comes out asks ''is everything alright??" Pointed out the obvious and he was very apologetic and got onto it straight away, turns out someone didn't tighten the injector pipe properly......more then likely the apprentice.

I cringe when read these stories and shake my head at how common it is with others working on your car.
My truck only see's my hands and tool these days.
