Have an 06 diesel dual cab done 63,000kms, first service out of warranty and they tell me the water pump is leaking and needs replacing - will cost $700. The guy at Toyota tells me he can't recall a water pump going on a late model diesel.

Having searched I could only find one guy who had the problem with a petrol workmate.

Has anyone else had an issue with there water pump on a diesel?

Good news on the following.

Toyota phoned and advised that they would pay for the pump and half the install cost. That means I'm up for about $170. Better than $700!!

Well done Toyota.

is it mounted behind the timing belt ?

if so get a belt put on at the same time , then good for another 100 K

I have a 2007 2.5 ltr and a 2008 2.5 ltr , 2007 water pump was leaking at around 35,000km and 2008 at about 30,000km :!: and don't think they were trying to scam me due to I didn't pay a thing becuz they were still covered on warrenty ;)

mines going in for a new water pump and a/c compressor under warranty, but they have to wait for the a/c compressor to land from japan apparently :o , on top of that i had to put a new alternator in it last week $1000 just for the unit out of my pocket and i'm waiting for some mechanic shops to open tommorow so i can try and get a new clutch in it before i go back to work...oh joy.
oh yeah its got 96k on it.

hahah im the guy that did the one on the work mate it turns out it was leaking out the very front seal where the shaft from the fan went through it rather odd. anyway only cost 150 bucks to fix and an hours work.

here is some food for thought our other bus is a 3 liter gu patrol and those water pumps are spensive as they have the viscouse hub built in. like 550 wholesale so be glad the lux ones are seperate
