Quick diff plug question

Have a quick one fellas
just cold chiseled out the front diff drain plug but the new ones i bought off ebay are smaller the thread isnt even close to fitting the drain plug and the filler one has a big lip on it and diesnt seem like it will even fit in there
Are there differnt size drain plugs? as it looks like the diff has been apart at some stage

Is that the usual size thread on a drain plug 2010 v6 4wd?

I think you ordered the wrong one.
KUN26 is the diesel model. The V6 should be GGN25
I would have thought they would be interchangeable

Yep bugger... i knew it was for diesel and thought they should have been interchangable too
V6 models must have slightly different front diffs?
I reused the top fill plug and a VY commodore sump plug 24mm x 1.5 std was the right thread for the drain plug

Why are they rubbish? Just because you don't have the correct tool to undo it?

Toyota must not have the correct tools either, mine had no hex left in it when i tried to undo it.
Hey, at least I know they changed the oil.

well...... maybe aandy, or maybe they stripped it and ticked of the checklist without removing it?
Also the oem toyo ones are crap, that is why they strip out, even with the correct tool.

That is the other option......
It had been hit with a chisel as well, so they tried a bit before they gave up and left it.
It is still in use, what a mangled mess it is now. I have a new plug waiting for next oil change, the one Fourby4diesel put a link to, a while ago.

Diffs are no different from v6 to diesel, what you received was for pre 05 front diff or all rear diffs. the plugs are fine if torqued correctly and new gaskets are used every couple of times. Sure they aren't the best design but if treated properly they are fine.

Hi everyone,
Apology if this has been answered in the previous threads. I am new to the forum, did try and search but could not find what i was looking for
Can anyone let me know the way to go about removing the front diff oil fill plug? Had a few goes and can't seem to get it! Going in from the top i can't seem to ratchet in to undo it as there is next to no room. Going from the bottom also doesn't seem like a viable option.

The word is you may need to chisel the stupid plug out and replace it with a plug with hex head like the rear one. Google hilux front diff plug.

I have a bit if allen key that I have cut down, I tap it into the plug lightly so I know it's seated, then I use a spanner on it. Giving the whole plug a few good taps with the a hammer b4 you start too helps.

Great tip Toyz, but to ditch the OEM plug makes sense. Your hex key tip is the best economic fix.

Cheers guys I'll give it a go hammering it in and if not I'll give it try with a chisel! Will definitely be getting a hex head plug for less of a headache come next time around
