With the recent purchase of my SR5 Hilux and my first Diesel, I'm want to get into doing my own basic maintenance/preventative maintenance, I was thinking about injector cleaners as I used to use them on my petrol engines, but I don't know which one is the best for these D4D Turbo Diesel engines, and also how often to do it for Diesels, I've heard from every 10,000kms to every month or 2? so what do you guys recommend? also what are some other things that I should be doing regularly?

It's a 2012, 110,000kms, full service history every 10-11,000km, I had it serviced first thing after I bought it about 2,500km ago, I bought it stock, only mods I've done so far are Bar and UHF with a snorkel and some Lights that I've just got to find time to install.

Buy the Techstream cable from eBay, it’s called Techstream mini vci or something like that. I have the 1.4 firmware cable, I read that the 2.0.4 one is better for some reason but mine works ok. Price is around $30 for the 1.4 and $100 for the 2.0.4

If you’re on Facebook join 1kd forever crew, 1kd injectors only and what ever other pages are linked to those, a wealth of information from the 1kd guru. On the injector page you can upload a screenshot of your Techstream data and Anthony will diagnose it for you. Great bloke.

As far as additives, I would only run straight diesel unless you have an issue.

So you can check the oil pickup screen for blockages through the drain plug when changing the oil.

When fitting your snorkel use wiss snips to cut the big hole, heaps easier than a hole saw.’

Diesel is hydroscopic. For an older tank some will say the best thing you can do is keep the fuel clean - drop the fuel tank get it clean of bacteria/fungi microbe build up if overgrowth suspected.
Add a product like fuel doctor to prevent diesel bug crud build up and add a 2ndary filter.
