Fuel warning light flashing after filter change

Hello,

Weekend just gone I changed the fuel filter(10k since last change),
there was a little sludge in the bottom of the canister but nothing much more than in the past (I've changed before). The fuel warning light was not on or flashing.

Cleaned it out with kerosene and dried out then reassembled.

Two days later the fuel warning light is now flashing, occasionally it may go off when on an incline.
I've drained the canister a couple times as well as reopened and checked it.
Fuel is clean and filter is brand new.

Is it possible that the water float in the canister is damaged or the wiring plugs are ?

Any suggestions on checking and can I leave them unplugged ?
How are the terminals supposed to read with a multimeter ?

thanks,

L

Genuine filter? Sounds like the float is stuck. Maybe there is water in the tank? Worth considering a prefilter so you can see any water. When you drained the filter did you drain into a glass jar? That way you can see any water. Also might be worth disconnecting the outlet from the filter and prime it until clean fuel comes out, then reconnect and prime until the primer goes stiff. There may be an airlock in the filter?

Yes, I drained into a clear plastic bottle, fuel is clean.
Filter is also genuine.
