Brake disc and pad combination

Hi all,

I have a KUN26R and and bought it new in 2008. I go down Bulli Pass (very steep) every day. After about 2 months after buying the truck, I got the discs machined due to some shudder when applying the brakes. After that all good.

Last year (12/17) I needed the front brake pads replaced and I didn't ask or wonder if anything would be an issue. After ~ 4 months, the shudder was back big time and it was pointed out the discs had warped and needed replacing as there wasn't enough meat on them. So they were replaced but the pads were not.

Now the shudder is back again after ~ 4 months. I have driven the same way down Bulli Pass. The pads and discs lasted best part of 8 years without a worry previously. I don't tow heavy loads and I try to not brake aggressively. I generally use the truck to and from work and about on weekends.

Now something needs replacing. I can see people have changed disc here to DBA. I haven't been able to find a thread about people changing (x) disc supplier with (y) pad supplier.

Is there any combination that people have great trust in ?? Is it worth going with different suppliers of disc and pad ??

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks,

Tim

Yeah I’ve got the DBA rotors and bendix ultimate pads. No complaints at all from me. I also had my old discs machined twice within 2,000 klms because of the shudder before changing to this setup.
Had this combo in now for nearly 6,000 and still fine!

Oh and also, if you want abit more bite grab Subaru WRX pads [emoji3]

Ive been running DBA T2 rotors with heavy duty bendix pads, loads better than the original brakes ever were.
The original rotors warped with light round town use so didnt want to machine them, seemed like a waste of time running the original with even less meat on them.

I used T3 Aussie made rotors and Bendix 4WD pads on my 2011 when the originals cooked by 30,000km. Were better than the originals but I replaced them not long after as still not enough braking with the larger 265/65/17 tyres. So fitted TRD size T3 rotors with 120 Series calipers and Bendix pads.

The WRX pads make a noticeable difference on the pre-update hiluxs with the smaller rotors.

Thanks for sharing the part numbers.

I ordered the same discs as you but went with Bendix 4WD pads. Autone were very good with pricing. They were miles under Bursons (I'm talking nearly half) and Repco and SCA for the discs and matched SCA on the pads.

Thanks again guys for your input.

You would have double checked with the supplier that you have the same brakes as Tyler before you ordered them hey?

When you get the T2’s check the box if you can to see if they are Aussie made. I couldn’t find that out when I ordered mine so got T3’s as I could see the box.

Hey mate, do you know if your Hilux has VSC?
If you do then you will need the bigger rotors 318mm and pads to suit. (The wrx pads won’t work with the bigger discs) they may mount okay but the pads designed for the 318 rotors naturally have more surface area than the wrx ones for the 297mm rotor so it would be pointless

Thanks HK. I had ordered before I saw this post but I can see by the box they are Australian Made !!!

Different posts alluded to there maybe bearing issues as well. So I took the truck to a mechanic who is very trustworthy. Thats worth $$$ to me. Upshot is, bearings good and brakes/pads on.

Lets hope I don't have another issue.

Thanks for your help everyone.
