Good mechanics in Adelaide

Hi -

I saw the "Good Mechanics" topic a few months back - but nobody mentioned anything in Adelaide.

I recently bought an '07 SR manual, D4D, am wondering if anyone is willing to recommend a Toyota Service / repair place in Adelaide.

I am wanting to take it there for regular servicing as well as any warranty probs that might crop up.

Cheers
Sobriquet

I take mine to CMI in Stepney for services, have had no problems with them and they don't appear to cut any corners.

Felix, thanks for your reply.

Anybody else? Surely there's more than one person in Adelaide who has had a positive experience ? - Certainly hope so!.

Cheers
Sobriquet.

I'm not sure of the wording of Toyota's warranty being from the darkside but surely there is no obligation on your part to get it serviced soley at Toyota dealers. This shouldn't affect your warranty either and will save $$. By all means, keep at them for warranty work.

We take ours to Peter Kittle at Para Hill and get good service and fair pricing.

The advantage of taking it to a Toyota dealer is they will address warranty recall issues and updates that normal mechanics don't know about or don't have access to and not all mechanics understand the D4D engines.

I think some people who have issues with dealers bring it on them selves.

That is probably because we expect so much more from a dealer as they are service, service, service, orientated that they text you the day before to remind you of the booking then ring you up 2 days later to make sure you are happy. My 'lux goes to a dealer as it is across the road from the office and, as olcoolone mentioned, they are up to date with warranty issue. I had 5 visits to the dealer to eventually get 4 injectors replaced. The dealer had the plug in computer and had a fair idea what the problem was within 5 mins. I doubt a generic mechanic would've picked up the problem that quickly let alone have the computer plug in doova to officially detect the problem!
Dealer for me, as they know their products and faults backwards, and will repair items under warranty, no hassles. My dealer is south of the city, and is across the road from work.

Triggy03.... 100% spot on, we had a customer bring a Volvo to use for some work, dropped the car off at 8.30 in the morning and didn't give a specific pick up time, we had a look at her car at about 11.00am and found a faulty component and a plug disconnected making our work we had to do imposable to do....we phoned her at 11.30am and said we have not been able to do our work because these other problems had to be fixed first...we got abused by her for wasting 3 hours of her day and then she informed us the car if booked into Volvo for the other work on Monday.

She gave us more grief when she picked up her car!

When the car got dropped off in the morning our service guy asked a set lot of question with one question being "is there anything else wrong with the car and has anybody worked on it recently"....her reply was "no there is nothing else wrong and nobody has looked at the car for a while".

We had a new customer phone us on Saturday complaining about their air conditioner was not working properly in their Jeep, found some mobile guy in the Messenger who charged them $100.00 to regas their air conditioner, got the car in the workshop and what a poor job...they were lucky, what he did could of cost them a couple of thousand dollars in repairs if the didn't pick up on it then selves.

We come across shonky workmanship daily.

Olcoolone.
Run with the old saying.
"You can't make Strawberry Jam from Cowshit"
Not a line I use regulary to my customers but its pretty effective.
I have few customers that I wouldnt mind touching up there manners a bit with a bit of 4"x 2" nothing heavy like hardwood just a piece of pine...lol But if I did I'd be driving a Mahindra pickup or in Long Bay Gaol.
Cheers

I would always use a dealer, but there are dealers and then there are wheeler dealers.
Took my SR5 back to the supposedly reputable dealer for a service 20,000km and when I picked it up it had damage to the left front guard. Someone does not know how to drive properly. When I pointed out the damage they said they would fix it when I came in for my next service. They would not fix it before then. Made me feel pretty ripped off. Nothing else I could do to get it fixed without the money going out of my pocket. They did have it fixed and painted the next service and the job was done very well. Have had issues with the brakes, told the dealer and they said not under warranty. Sure but who needs discs machined after just 40,000km and the second set of pads. Do not tow with the vehicle. They gave me a quote for $780.00 to repair brakes, and surprise surprise when I told them I had another quote from another dealer and I would being taking it to them they informed me it now would be covered under warranty and fixed the brakes.
I have had enough of them and now use a fantastic dealer CMI at Christies Beach. Free loan car whilst my ute is being serviced and the job is always done properly.

Greetings fellow Adelaidians,

Thought i'd re-open this thread as I am now in the process of sourcing a reputable place to have my new lux serviced. Just after an update as staff change, sometime so does quality of work.

My preference is a toyota dealer or 4wd specialist. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I live in close proximity to the city and I don't mind travelling for quality work, although Chrisites Beach is probably a little too far.

If there is anywhere in particular I need to steer clear of, i'd also appreciate the heads up.

Regards
g-dog

Yeh they have cars now up the top showing through the windows! they have spent some money there upgrading that. Kinda cool how ya can see through the front windows and see the mechanics working on the cars.
