The oil geek...

Postby EdgeOutdoors on Thu, 31 Aug 2017 4:16 +0000

Hi guys,

I know there are so many oppinions and topics on oil but this one is a litle more specific, therefore my question :geek:

It's time for some maintenance on my Hilux (2.5L d4d with DPF) and I should use 5w30 full synthetic C2 oil, according to my Toyota dealer and the manual that came with the truck.

But my question is; can I also use C3 oil? My understanding is that C2 and C3 are both mid-SAPS oils, have the same specifics but C3 has a higher HTHS which is better to protect and lube the engine. C2 oil is more orientated towards environment and fuel econemy.

So... what is the best for the Hilux? It seems that C3 is the best for the engine or should i stick with C2...? Btw at Toyota they said that they do use C3 oil for the RAV4...

Try asking the same question to the product help details on the packaging and let us know the reply.

C3 are no problem. Toyota in Norway use C3 with recomendation from Castrol, even when the book say C2.
