That's a big drum 1000L. I'm sure it wouldn't last too long in a service centre.

But is it really worth the extra coin compared to another brand?

I was led to believe 15-40 is standard for the diesel Lux. Why would they use 10-30 ? or is that location specific?

I am using Valvoline super diesel 15/40 in mine, its what the local Toyota dealer was using and I have just carried on with it.
I have stockpiled up quite a few litres by buying it when its cheap, last lot was $44 for ten litres so I change it about every 5000k, I have also started running the wifes vx commodore on it

yeah i use the 5w/30 toyota oil or 5w/40 pen rite diesel... box head is your diesel oil fully synthetic cause my local dealer uses 5w/30 mobil oil and mobil don't make anything other than fully synth. apparently its okay to use that in them, *dont wanna start up a fully synthetic vs semi argument haha*

I purchased a new Hiulx in 2013 here in Christchurch NZ. In the manual that came with the truck the recommended oil was 5w-30 for NZ. The two Toyota dealers in Christchurch were both using Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 at the time. This is all quite confusing. Prior to my trucks first service I emailed Toyota NZ asking them to confirm the correct oil type and grade that should be used. Toyota NZ now recommend 15w-40 for NZ. The two Toyota dealers in Christchurch have both now changed to the Toyota OEM oil and the viscosity is 15w-40. Hope this info is of some use, Cheers.

A mineral based oil is fine if you are changing every 5000 KS. If you want do a change from 5-10k a semi synthetic would be better as it has less break down properties but you pay extra for the additives in it.I change my oil less than 5000k with a semi synthetic and have tried both mineral and semi and fully synthetic. I notice that semi synthetic has less rattle and brings the oil up to temp quicker which provides better protection and a long service interval but I still change it less than 5000k regardless. I have access to all the the different Castrol oils out there and I use mag diesel 15-40.If you get it serviced at Toyota dealer your likely to get 10-30 as an oil as it its a generic oil supplied to them for all vehicles.

On a recommendation I've changed my diesel over to ULX 110 http://www.ulx110.com.au/htmlsite/ It's about $75/5 L. I've never seen an oil so smooth.
