P0405 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit Low

Postby LocalFart on Fri, 06 May 2016 9:49 +0000

Hey Guys,

Just did a bit of searching and couldn't find too much info on this code apart from the EGR block off thread...

But I have started getting this fault code on a cold start-up on my 2012 SR Diesel, only mods engine wise are an Ironman snorkel fitted about 6 months ago.

I believe that it has something to do with the EGR valve? or could be sensor?

Can I call upon the knowledgeable ones of the forum to help me on this one? were should I start to look? if someone has a diagram of the layout of all the sensors and valves that would be great also :)

Thanks again,
Damien

Okay so I've cleaned out the EGR on the weekend.

On Sunday morning I got another CEL.
On Monday morning and afternoon (both cold starts) I didn't get any CEL.
On Tuesday morning I have the CEL again :/

Would there be any reason why I only get this code on a cold start every now and then?

Cheers,
Damien

P0405 error code..

Postby smurfgq on Sun, 18 Dec 2016 9:23 +0000

Hey guys, my 2006 Hilux has just come up with the engine check light and after checking it on the scan tool it came up with this error code P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit Low, it hasn't gone into limp mode so I'm assuming it's still okay to drive, so was just wondering if anyone else has had this and what needs to be done, I know it's got to do with the EGR sensor on top of the intake, I did recently pull apart and clean the pipes on the intake about a month ago so everything was working fine till now all plugged in and connected, any info would be much welcome, I did do a search on here but couldn't find any info about it..

Cheers in advance ..Mick..
Hmmm.. 4X4ING, CAMPING, FISHING AND HUNTING... WHAT COULD BE BETTER...

Okay, so almost to the day, one year later. The code a bared it's ugly head again...

Should I be looking into a sensor faulty? seems to only happen in the colder months.

I cleared the code this morning before I left for work, after about 15 minutes of driving it popped up again while I was taking off from some lights, could this guide me somewhere else as I got the code when the engine was warm?

Bump.

Anyone have any ideas where I should look? unless the EGR is blocked again after 15,000 km I wouldn't know where to look.

Hey mate, were you thinking that the EGR Valve Sensor (p/n 89455-35020) was the issue? I thought the same and replaced it with a new one but it didn't help in my case.

I don't believe there was anything wrong with mine. If you'd like, I can send my old unit to you to try out?

Oh thanks for that... I'll keep that in mind. I have given the top end a bit of a clean at the start of this week and cleaned the bit of hose and piping that comes from the intake to the MAP filter. that was pretty clogged up with goop and that seems to have stopped the CEL's... for now

But I'm still having a similar issue as you with the smoke when it's cold and crappy boost response. I might take a video and upload it.

Alas, the CEL's have been back for a while, I've also got another that's popped up.

I decided to do another EGR clean and make sure all the sensors ect were clean. No luck.
How can I test to see if the EGR sensor itself is the issue? anything I can find with a multimeter?

Received the spare sensor in the mail on Monday. And thanks to apSlain No more CEL.

seems like the sensor was faulty, I does feel a lot smoother when pushing in the probe.

No worries mate - has the Check Engine Light returned or does it seem like you're in the clear?

Just as an FYI, the sensor I sent you is from my August 2006 D4D, removed at 147,000km (a few months ago). Not sure how much age affects the performance of these things.

Yeah no more CEL since replacing the sensor, so looks to have done the trick 8-)

Thanks for that info. considering my 2012 has just ticked to 100k it's not too far off km wise. but if it packs up I'll know to replace it strait away.
