Timing Belt - Servicing Estimate

Hi there,

I have a 2008 Hilux that the timing belt was done at 100 K mark and I've just hit the 200 K mark and the light has come on to service it. Now I'm just wondering what's a suitable amount to pay for the servicing and labour? I've run around 3 places and they've come best with quotes roughly of $1000 and waiting on a response back from Toyota directly as they service my newer lux.

I'm betting Toyota's price will be around the $1500 mark or higher. They're pricey as anything. For luxes out of warranty, your best bet is to find a trusted mechanic that you can stick with long term.

Thanks for the reply mate, yeah my mechanic who I've used since day dot on this lux looks like I'll be going through him. Must say when I heard 1K, was like jeebus. Got to keep the baby happy though never has let me down. :D

Only reason the newer one goes to Toyota still is its still under warranty.

A grand to do a timing belt, r they joking? What else r they doin? If a mechanic with the rite tools can't do it in under an hour then there is something wrong!

And while they have the covers off it's best to replace the waterpump and cam gear seal at the same time would I be right?

Is it a diesel, or a petrol? I thought diesels are 150k intervals.

Diesel should be 150km for cam belt. Should include new water pump, coolent, tensions and a oil change.
It's never cheap.
150km service also includes diff, transfer and gearbox oil change. Dint think there was a 100km service as I get mine done every 150km.
My old 99 hilux with the 3rz-fe had a chain and so dose my 06 with the 1gr-fe. I'm not sure about the new 2.7 petrols.

Turns into a mammoth job. Since I have been doing my own servicing I spread the oils out over a couple of services, also like to change the transmission oil, well at least 4 litres of it every 50k on the recommendation of Penrite.

Next service is the 150k so by the time I have done the engine oil and filter, water pump, timing belt kit and coolant as well as the EGR blanking plate and EGR valvebody clean I don't think ill have the determination to crawl underneath and start draining diff and transfer case oils and brake fluid as well, seems like just yesty I did all that and they are not LSD anymore either so I'm sure an extra 10 k isn't going to kill them, especially when it has been all onroad driving in the last 40k with very little towing.

Those service intervals in the book are calculated for hard working utes in severe conditions, and also to meet Toyotas estimates of recovering costs by the end of its service life.Other than the engine oil nothing is working very hard in most of our utes.

Ask the oil companies tech advisors for an estimated life of their lubricants.
