2013 Hilux - Torque Setting for Sump Drain Plug?

Postby jemo on Fri, 24 Oct 2014 4:41 +0000

Hi all,

Had a quick search to see if this has been covered before but couldn't find anything exact. Is there a factory recommended torque setting for the sump drain plug? The wifes Mazda 3 does but that has a alloy sump. The sump plug washer appeared to be plastic? and attached to the sump? so I thought it may be important not to over tighten the drain plug/bolt.

Cheers,

Jemo.

The sump plug washer is not plastic, it is aluminium/fiber. It should be removed from the sump and replaced but if you didn't I wouldn't worry about it, if it is not leaking now it won't start leaking.

No idea about a torque for the plug.

That's the size of the hexagon head, not the thread size.
I don't know what the torque should be, but 25 ft/lb sounds way too much.
Sorry Wing, sometimes I'm right, I think this is one of them.
