'05 onwards front brake discs

Postby ashh on Sun, 21 Sep 2014 7:08 +0000

Is it a known problem or common occurrence for stock discs to get hotspots?
I carry a heavy load and use the brakes more often being an auto 1GRFE..
I've just noticed a slight shudder in the steering when applying the brakes which indicative of a hotspot/s.
What's a good aftermarket replacement for the stockos?

It is common if you have done a suspension upgrade and did not adjust the rear brake proportioning valve so you have rear brakes.

If you lift the rear end and do not adjust that valve you will be completely relying on your front brakes to stop you.

When I first got the vehicle it was a mall crawler that never carried any weight, but since I bought it is carrying close to its max GVM constantly, I'm still on stock suspension and have never adjusted the rear drums??
Didn't think it was something that had to be done?? Easy enough to do for the backyard mechanic? Ill have a search anyways, cheers for links jakelux, was hoping someone had recently done a swap over with good/better results.

Hello ashh

Mate I can honestly say the Australian Made DBA 4x4 Survival Series T2 or T3 are the best discs you can get.

http://www.dba.com.au/products/4x4-survival-series/

I always try to use Toyota original parts but there are some things like brake discs etc where the quality of Australian steel is superior.

X2 on the dba 4x4 survival rotors. I've got the t2's. t3 just gives you pre heat treatment and also heat indicators. Matched with QFM HPX pads.

But if you've never adjusted the rear shoes up, then that alone is sure to make a world of difference!!
