Have I voided my warranty?

Postby kitdoctor on Sun, 27 Jul 2014 2:58 +0000

Our '13 Hilux was due for its 20k service (only done 17k) in March but we put it in storage in February.

If I now take it to a Toyota dealer in August when we get it out of storage will there be an issue?

I had the same thing with my 09
I was getting it serviced every 5000
But because the 5000 service was not a logbook one
I missed my service on time and not kms

And was told I had void my warranty on time unless I had 2 services at once to get it back

Most warrantys are 10kms or 6 months as my was

I had my car serviced 11 months after I perched it at 15000kms
(It had 3, 5 and 10 already done)
Little did I know I need to get the 20k service done, nore was I told, so it was stamped in the back of the book 15000kms
I took it back 7 months latter to get 20k service, pick up car like nothing different was done,
But before leaving I checked my book was stamped and it waserent,
Looked again and 30k was done

Went back in and was told my car was over 15 months old so it had passed it time for the 30k service, so that needed to be done
I asked what about the 20k, I was told I missed it
I argued with then that it was in 7 months earlier
And they said they never did it because it was not up in time, and I booked it in for a 15 and was charged for a 15 not a 20
So to keep my warranty I needed to service on time or kms
So what my dealer did was go through the book and mark what was different between the 2 and just did them and charged me for them,
Then back dated my stamp to a week before the 30k,

Short story short,
Ring them and maybe offer it to be towed as it hasn't been started for a while from storage to dealer,
Because some companies are cracking down in warranties,
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

That doesn't even make sense, toyota dealer logic!!

I assume they meant get all the items attended to / checked from both service schedules?

I would just plead your case and say that its been in storage unused and nothing you could do about because you had other commitments. I don't think missing one will be a big deal.

I'm not even gonna get 4000kms on mine before the first service, hoping this isn't going to be a problem with toyota.

Ok this is how it works.
If you have it bought from new you have to service it every 6 mth or 10 000 km.
So with service advantage. You may only have 20 000 km on the truck but if it is 36 mths old you will be doing a 60 000 km service.
I have done a 60 000 on a yaris of a lovely old lady's whom only drives it to the shops and church it only had 8000 km on the clock what was 36 mths old.

Time or km. If you have a 18 mths old car and had It service at 10 000km and not driven it in ages you will miss the 20 and do a combined 20/30 000km service. Due to the time

agreed with boxhead, I always thought its which ever comes first, not one or the other kms or 6 months regardless!
Vehicle #1: 2013 SR5 - plenty of mods to come.... hopefully
Vehicle #2: 2009 CBR1000 - maxxed out.. lol

Okay, all good at Ken Mills Toyota on the Sunshine Coast. Car had 20,000 km on the odometer and they did the 18 month/30,000 km service. Best experience I've ever had with a dealer service department. Local (Mitsubishi) dealer up here could learn a thing or two from them. Cheers MONGO.

They didn't say anything to me, except "u just made it easier to change the injectors".
