Preventative Maintenance?

Postby gtr161 on Tue, 03 Jun 2014 12:25 +0000

Like the previous post, I have just had the final 60,000km 'capped price' service done. The Toyota customer service dude called me and explained that 'as a preventative measure, we recommend you get the 'Emission Oil System Service' ($81), the 'Diesel Injection Service ($212) and the 'Air Intake Clean' ($167).
I have seen the thread on the forum relating to the air intake clean and reckon that's a pretty easy job to do at home, however I'm a bit perplexed by the Emission Oil Service and Diesel Injection Service.

So.... my question is, what exactly is done on these services? Can it be done at home? Is this just another Toyota 'rip off' or are these really worthwhile preventative measures?

I refuse to pay $212 for a bottle of injector clean that could be administered easily by me.

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

Yeah I reckon Toyota are a rip off. I took mine elsewhere after the fixed price servicing ended and they looked at the recommended items, checked them out and didn't do anything unless it needed it. Toyota as you say just do it anyway and charge through the nose for it.

My 80,000 service cost $300 instead of $600 quoted by toyota
