Service interval

Hi

Used the search but couldn't find exactly what I was after. At the moment I do a service every 5000km at my mechanic. My question is if it is really necessarily? Or would it be enough to change the oil every 5000km and bring it in every 10tk?

Also is there a list with what i should get replaced after a certain amount of km?

Cheers Manny

Interesting....my dealer suggests I bring it to them every 15k for an oil and filter change under service plan (2013 3.0l diesel). My warranty book says refer to Owners manual, manual states oil every 5k, oil filter every 10k.
Anyone else think 15k is way too long considering I do lots of short trips (approx 8-11kms)?

Wouldn't bother with oil without filter IMO. I'd do diesel oil every 5 unless it's all freeway driving.

You could get away with 15k intervals if you changed to fully synthetic oil.

So its not normally fully synth from factory then? Its coming up to its 5000km service and i am fully capable of changing the oil myself but i want to make sure I adhere to any warranty requirements. My dealer wont service it under the service plan until it has over 10k on it (NZ $275 if i want it done at 5000km). Reckon I contact Toyota NZ directly? Feeling pretty confused......

Service at the prescribed intervals as per Toyota's schedule AND also follow everyone's advice to do the oil and filter at the 5000k interval between prescribed services. Oil's cheap (even top quality oil) compared to engines.

Don't forget that time will also affect when you service

Last time I used genuine toyota engine oil it was made by mobil and semi synthetic this was a couple of years ago though and I believe it has changed? Happy to be corrected.

Personally I do my own logbook service at home, change oil and filter every 5000. Using Penrite HPR Diesel 10W40 semi synthetic and genuine oil filters.

One of the benefits with fully synthetic is you can have longer service intervals, oil won't degrade compared to a mineral or semi synthetic over the same period.

Thanks for all the advice, I went and got myself a genuine Toyota oil filter.
Owners manual recommends a 5W-30. Was going to use a Elf 5W30 Fully Synth oil I can get cheap through work. It says its recommended for DPF equipped diesels.
Any views on this are most welcome.

Also apologies to Manny82 for hijacking your thread.

No worries.

My 100tkm service is coming up the last service at the Toyota dealer was when I bought it with 80000.

Is there anything special I should tell my mechanic to look at. So far he just did like a standard service. Oil, belt, filters etc.

On a recommendation I've changed my diesel over to ULX 110 http://www.ulx110.com.au/htmlsite/ It's about $75/5 L. I've never seen an oil so smooth.
