Caught out

Postby kickinback on Thu, 20 Feb 2014 6:31 +0000

Took the hilux in for its 40k service. This is a $170 fixed price service.

Now I thought that part of the service is replacing the injector seals, so my curious nature got the better of me and I paint marked 2 bolts that must be removed to do this.

I pick up my car and sure enough, on the invoice in the parts section are the seals and washers for the injectors. Off home I go and lift the bonnet. Sure enough the paint marks are unbroken. I have been flat out and unable to go down to Toyota to sort it out.

Anyway, my Toyota survey arrives in my email. I fill it out and note my disappointment.

First up this morning Toyota service call and explain. To their credit they said straight out they didn't replace the parts and didn't tell any fibs what so ever. It goes back in next week.
Going straight to the top seems to work!

Now your without the car for another day, I had the same sort of thing with mine when new, took it in to get a service and the rear seat was rattling, they told me yeah yeah all fixed mate just a loose bolt, all sorted. I didn't get out of the carpark and I could hear it again ( obvious noise if you bothered to try and fix it) manager comes out and says you will need to book it in again, this time 2 days seat had to be sent away. People need their car, I think sometimes they don't understand that

due to recent financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel has been shut off until further notice !

Asked for and got a courtesy car. The survey I fill out after each service goes directly to Toyota Australia, hence the rapid response.

This is the kind of thing that needs to get media attention!! It disgusts me to think that a 'reputable' company as big as Toyota can claim on an invoice that the parts where used and then later admit they hadn't done the work at all AFTER they'd been caught out is appalling! My step daughter was charged $60 to replace the RUBBER blades (not the whole arm!) of her windscreen wipers. This same 'mechanic' tried to also tell her that the brakes on her 1994 Exel needed replacing at a cost of $500 (which I did maybe 2 months earlier) for the front only...should she not do this work he would not 'pink slip' it for registration. As you can imagine she rang in tears and I was furious! I CANNOT stand these pricks that think we are all idiots!!!

Ok sorry lads I'll calm down now....this sort of thing really fires me up.

.................Hun, can you put the kettle on, I need coffee!!!

Don't forget, this is a dealership, not Toyota Australia.

Mines coming up for its 40k service soon. Could you post a pic up of what you marked? Unfortunately I too doubt my dealers credibility.

No one is going to replace injector seals in a $170 service, unless Toyota is paying the other $300, which I guess is how fixed price service works?
I'd be very skeptical of any dealer doing anything other than changing the oil & filters plus a quick inspection of the listed items, if they feel like it. Unless you're paying for it, and even then you gotta be careful.

Did they confirm if replacing the injector seals is part of the fixed price 40k service or is it going back and your paying for their replacement?

I had mine serviced a few weeks ago, will be checking the invoice when I get home to see if they listed the parts.

Kickinback.

The seals were In The fixed price service up
To the point of the replacement Aloy injector seals.

I can confirm. Now!

Well from 2009.

the tappet check can still be done but the injectors 4 seals and the 4 Orings an the 5 drop rail
Saddles are not included.

Now only the tappet cover and the 4 top seals and 4 fuel pipe seals are in the fixed price service.

But if I was in there I would pay the extra to have them replaced.

I can say with conference this is the Case as I had just finished a 40 000 km on a 2012 hilux. Customer got the correct service but did not want to pay the extra for the injector seals. So they did not get done. And fair enough as they no longer need to be removed to check the tappets. Tappets we within correct specification and all tappet cover gaskets were replace. But. If you have to adjust the tappet yes then they have to be removed so then They would e replaced.

In saying that a tappet adjustment is not part of the service either so the customer would have to pay anyhow.

BUT, they didn't do the tappet clearance check and stated on the service sheet they did. If the seals weren't included I would have payed for them to be done. The point is, unless you stand over their shoulder, you don't know what is being done. It comes down to trust and any I had has gone all because they were to lazy to carry out the service by the book.
