10,000km service

Postby Hilux Max on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 9:01 +0000

when I work on my own vehicle Dave, no matter what I use an airgun on, I always check by hand afterwards.....just in case the one time I may forget and the gun is not working properly, you dont want that to happen. you can always trust your hand......(no pun intended 8-) )

maxx or others
this is prob a stupid question but can you overtighten the U Bolts, shackles etc.
I seem to be able to tighten them still when applying force by hand. Do I just stop until I cant go anymore.
I dont compete in the strongest man competition hehe

10,000km service

Postby Hilux Max on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 6:28 +0000

nah, just make sure they are tight. most metal bolts will reach a point where they are tight and wont tighten anymore, even thou it may turn abit afterwards. this extra bit of turn could be the thread stretching slightly, usually called elastic torque, or something close to that.

tighten but dont over tighten.

Postby david allan on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 6:44 +0000

thanks max

i thought if i tighten it to fare i could break/snap something eg U Bolt, Nut or even the bracket thats under the diff which the U Bolts go through

Will give it a good tighten tnite then, juts hard to get some leverage when your lying on the ground
gota put one foot against the wheel/chasis for stabilisation.

10,000km service

Postby david allan on Sun, 10 Aug 2008 8:56 +0000

Hey guys.
Was reading through the owners manual regarding changing fuel filters & it states that you dont have to do it often.
I have been changing it every 10,000k's. Whats everyone been doing.

Also how often do people drain the fuel filter plug/tap to remove water.
Do you guys actually undo the plug say every 5,000ks

10,000km Service

Postby Anth D on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 4:45 +0000

G'day fellas,

I've got the first major service coming up and was wondering if there is anything which I should request over and above which might need tending too, but isn't on the maintenance schedule?

Just for a bit of peace of mind...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Anth D
I just had my 10k done & they adjusted the rear drums & hand brake.
I actually have far better brakes now & have thrown out the boat anchor that i used to carry for emergencies.

Hey guys, really new to this forum. I'd like to know regarding oil change intervals for my 2010 Toyota Hilux. I use mobil delvac mx 15w-40 and change the engine oil consistently at 10,000km with the original toyota filters. Recently been told that its only indicated for 5000 to 7500 km and that I should upgrade to Delvac 1. Considering that delvac 1 is almost thrice the cost of delvac mx, I'd like some advice on this matter. Should I stick with my current oil drain interval or spend more on synthetics. The hilux is driven decently, cruising mostly at 80 - 100 km/h, I rarely carry any loads, and it never goes off-road. I live in Malaysia.

My truck has done 170 000 km thus far. It is well looked after. No black smoke whatsoever under hard acceleration or on inclines. It runs on euro 5 diesel.
