The 1GR-FE V6 is a Euro 4 engine and runs tight clearances – the preferred Viscosity is 5W 30

My advice with our warm climate and if you do bush work you use a quality Synthetic oil if you want to use a 5W 30 – Synthetics usually have a higher operating temp.

If your unable to use Synthetics (Cost) I would recommend a Semi Syn or Mineral at 15w 40.

Mobil make some of the world’s best Synthetics.

Shell makes some of the world’s best mineral oils as they still have wells with quality oil

My recommendation

1GR-FE 4.0 V6 - including standard Hilux and TRD Hilux Australia and USA TRD Tacoma
Mobil 1 5w-30

Front Diff - including Prado, Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

Transfer Case - including Prado, Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

5 Speed and 6 Speed manual - including Prado, Hilux - 2005 onward and USA TRD Tacoma
Mobil Delvac Synthetic 75w-90

Rear L/S Diff - including Hilux and TRD Hilux - 2005 onwards
Mobil 1 Syn Gear Lube LS 75w-90

Interesting note on the Delvac gear oil:
It’s the only oil strong enough for 100,000klm in most Road Ranger boxes and its a “Life” fill on other boxes.

If you are wanting to use Castrol Magnatec you will need the at least 10w 40 or 15w 40 to maintain protection under load.

Otherwise their Edge 5w 30 is a very good oil

As for the word magnatec that Castrol use its really just advertising material.
Castrol found that when they "Hydrocrack" an oil it made the molecules of the oil charge positive - it's not really magnetic!

Also just a little information on synthetics

While I would have no hesitation using Castrols Edge it's not really a true Syntheic oil - it's been "Hydrocracked" to profrom in a simula way to a Syntheic oil.

Mobil 1 is a true Syntheic PAO oil and starts its life as a top grade oil. All marketing stuff aside it's one of the best.
