Castrol Syntrax Vs Redline MT90/shockproof

Postby J-Lux on Tue, 09 Jul 2013 7:42 +0000

Fellas,

Doing a gearbox & diff oil change at 100k, has anyone used these products before?

Both are 75/90 and synthetic, redline is gl4 and castrol gl5.

I have a bit of a notchy gbox so I figured that these oils would fix it up a bit, making the shifts smoother.
Does have Nulon 75/90 semi synthetic gl5 in at the moment but not doing its justice in my opinion so something up market this time round.

Any info appreciated

Cheers

Changed diff oil from OE Toyota to Castrol Syntrax and have done about 20000 km with heavy towing and some off-roading in South Africa. Noticeably more quiet when running for a few hours. It is peace of mind in the knowledge that its 100% synthetic and can handle the worst possible situation with ease. i also view it as "filled for life" provided no water contamination takes place.

My view for a diff oil every 40 000 oil has to go. No matter the quality of the oil. Oil is cheap diffs are expensive. LSD diffs do contaminate the oil with normal where and tair. I have seen some shocking looking oil that has never seen water.

No experience with it myself but there are a number of the 70 series cruiser guys using the redline in gearbox and loving it
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

I've used this brand in particular with my wrx. I can't say I've used it on my hilux as yet but when I have to change gearbox oil would def give this a go again.

It is a lot smoother in gear changed compared to the penrite oil I used to used on my wrx. My wrx coped some flogging but I made sure that it also received good service.

In conclusion, I can vouch for Redline products so far.

Redline? Yeah take a mortgage out. Stick to the oil classifications and you'll find brands don't matter.

I'd recommend jumping on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com instead of going by your cousins mates pet gold fish and have a look at oil analysis reports.
