Hey Roo, for the gaskets, will the solid copper washers do fine, or do they have to be crushwashers? And how on earth do you torque the front diff filler plug? I could barely get the allen wrench in there last service. I'm about to service the diff oils an like to try doing it by the book this time.

How can i find out if my SR has an LSD?

Big red sticker in the back saying LSD.
Or jack it up spin one wheel. If they both move in the same direction it is LSD if not. Not LSD.hope this helps.

What is the recommended oil cha ge intervals in trans diff oils?

I am in the process of changing the diff oil in my 07 D4D and have struck some problems that I need some advice on.
The filler and drain plugs require a 10mm Allen Key to undo which is contrary to what The Roo stated as being 24mm socket.
The torque recommendations are a little hard to apply when using an allen key or is there a trick to this one.
Finally, after replacing the original bungs and refilling the diff, I am getting leakage, but I'm not sure if its because I can't torque the bungs or because I need new washers.
Have others replaced the original bungs to a 24mm socket one as the roo mentioned or just used the original with new washers and tighten them as hard as you can with an allen key.
Need some good solid advice ASAP because the vehicle is just sitting in the carport seeping a small amount of oil into a dish .

You will just need new washers, it must be cracked or something.
Drain it again, take the old washer to repco or wherever and find a new one, you can get thick soft aluminium ones that will work a treat, or just go get toyota ones.

don't worry too much about the torque, if you have done it up reasonably tight and it is still leaking, more torque won't help.
You can get an in hex socket for your plugs but I just use an allen key with a small pipe.

It's been a long time since I've been there, but I need the washers.

DO NOT USE copper washers on gearbox or transfer. aluminium and copper do not go together!

Ye, sorry Marvin, been a bit busy lately.
Mate, copper on that bottom drain plug, the front differential.
Just put the drain plug back in finger tight, then trolley jack up the front, and then use a 10mm hex socket and a torque wrench set to 55Nms and spec up.
Drop the vehicle back down and fill with Castrol whatever and re install the filler plug. Torque to 39Nms.
That's it, for the front differential, unless the drain plug gets stuck on the housing and you strip out the 10mm hex hole in the plug.
Then it's a cold chisel, and be very careful you don't go through the plug into the diff housing.

bugga it, my rear diff is leaking (fill plug). guess I'd better find a washer or some thread tape

If you have ever had any of these oils changed by the service department or anyone I guess, check that they are all torqued up and not leaking. As I had mine done at the 4th service and noticed just before the 6th service that the filler plug on the rear diff was only finger tight and oil had being leaking out, it had only lost approx 15mm deep of oil but still not too pleasing knowing what it would cost for a repair when it's not your fault

so can i just use Nulon full synthetic (75-90) for everything front rear diff gearbox and transfer or am i better to use different oils if i can i was just going to buy 2 x 4 litre bottles

as long as you dont have an LSD, then yes

that oil is the same as what I use it diff's, gearbox and transfer

if i have a lsd would i just need some ls90 for the diff and full synthetic for the rest. I had a look at super cheap and its $40 for 1 litre does that sound right and where could i get a 4 litre bottle

Yeah I no but for the gearbox castrol says 2.2l and nulon says 2.5l

work on a flat surface, fill until it is level with the fill hole

iirc it is 2.2L
