Just wondering what sized washers to get? And what they're made of. Asked autobarn for them but they couldn't find what ones were correct on their system.

yep.had a Prado in this week some tightass mechanic shop-not us hadn't replaced the washer & swung on the spanner to try stop the leak. end result cracked transfer around the filler & owner is now looking at a $1000+ repair bill to replace the cracked housing

Silver ones are called Crush Washes, they flatten out under initial load and make a very good seal.
Highly recommended to replaced every time you remove the filler and drain bolts.
& yeh $7.00 is ridiculous!

Question for our Newhilux Toyota mechanic's - why did Toyo go with Copper washer for the front Diff drain?

I'm assuming the ridged or raised side goes inwards?

+ lots.

And genuine filters too. Too easy !

This stuff is pretty cheap, particularly when you look at what is spent to get the vehicle, then the accessory bill(s)

yeah, the price doesn't bother me (much)

I really should have bought a lot more spares back when I had the Toyota discount card

front one extremely hard to undo on my 2007 came with a crush washer. i ended up paying toyota to change the oil. perhaps copper makes it easier.

Actually I had the opposite experience.
Front drain copper washer on mine was 12 months old, I had heaps of troubles getting it off.
I went to 2 different mechanics who had a go and neither couldn't get it.
I ended up getting it myself with a massive extension bar and a 10mm allen key hex socket.

I actually thought the coppers may bind in a bit, OR listening to your experience maybe just overtightened…

Thats ordinary!
Id go so far to claim, 99% of mechanic's don't use torque wrenches.
Its only when you start to work on your own mechanical requirements you become fully aware how shonky most mechanics are,
OR maybe they are taught that way to get jobs done and out the door faster, so the business makes more money?? You decide.
I decided some time back no mechanic touches my lux.

After a lifetime working on aircraft I never needed to remove a plug, bolt or screw using a cold chisel!

And yes I service all my own vehicles. :? From. New!
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
