What type of power steering oil ?

I did search on tapatalk but couldn't see this question anywhere.

What sort of power steering oil shoukd I use ?

V6 engine tho I suspect that's irrelevant to steering rack.

My mate said ok to use auto trams fluid dextron 3. He puts that in his Lexus v8 power steering.

Thoughts ? Serviced two weeks ago surprised they didn't comment. Sitting right on cold min.

powersteering and auto trans fluid is the same thing. so yes your mate is right

Only confusion is that there's different auto oil types. The d4d uses a type 3 or 4 ATF fluid whereas my 5spd auto (a750 box I think) uses "ws" (world standard oil). Been told must only ever use ws oil in the 5spd. (Then again can't get straight answers from toyo on that ... But that's a topic for a different thread).

Nevertheless he's got some standard ATF oil (type 3 dextron I think). So I shall use that

dextron three is what i used in the end mate, got it from a mates place who had some spare (because my 5spd auto transfluid is very different, its that WS world standard long life stuff ... and incompatible with the 4spd Autos)

so in my case, using "auto fluid" in context of the V6 autos' would be a no no ... but most autos use the generic stuff.
